In October 2011, Diana Walker took a striking photo of Hillary Clinton, sunglasses on, smartphone in hand, seated in the belly of a military plane bound for Libya. The image was featured in TIME that November, but found new life on the Internet in 2012, when two men started a tumblr imagining the conversations playing out on her PDA. The image macros at “Texts From Hillary” enjoyed so much viral success, the Secretary of State herself sent in an entry thanking the meme’s creators “for the many lolz.”
