The American socialite and heiress took on nearly as many nationalities as husbands. She was born in New York City but renounced her U.S. citizenship to share the Danish citizenship of her second husband, Count Kurt von Haugwitz-Reventlow. She moved back to the U.S. during her marriage to actor Cary Grant. Later she became a citizen of the Dominican Republic during her fifth marriage to Porfirio Rubirosa. According to an AP story, she did it for love. The country’s marriage laws in 1953 required that both bride and groom be Dominican citizens.
