Mitt Romney’s Father Got Free McDonald’s Hamburgers For Life

That headline is true. Mitt Romney told the story Tuesday about his father, George Romney, who received carte blanche at McDonald’s until his death in 1995. Romney spoke during a fundraiser in Chicago, which was filled with executives from the restaurant industry. This is from the pool report:

“You know how boys liked to go through their dad’s top drawer, just to sort of see what he has in there, maybe find an old coin he might not miss?” Romney asked. He said he went through his father’s drawer one day when he was in his teens or early 20s.

“I found a little paper card, a little pink card, and it said this entitles George W. Romney to a lifetime of a hamburger, a shake and French fries at McDonald’s,” Romney said. “It was signed by the hand of Ray Kroc. My dad had done a little training lesson or whatever for McDonald’s when there was
just a handful of restaurants and I saw this thing and was like, ‘This is a gold mine, dad! What are you doing?’”

“So I had it laminated,” Romney continued. “My dad, as you know, would go almost every day to a McDonald’s restaurant and get either a hamburger or a fish filet sandwich. And he would present this little card and of course the person behind the counter would look and say, well, what is that? They’d never seen something like that, but he said it was never turned
down. They always honored it.”

Ray Kroc, of course, was the man who built McDonald’s into most successful fast food company in the world. He died in 1984.

Romney is a rich pariah who simply can’t identify with ANY

average American through his fog of lies and network of havened money.  He’ll only continue to get booed out of the

room by every group of minority and middle class voters he comes across.  His religion and wealth is highly elitist and

everyone in this country has had it with his kind.  We’re telling Mitt he can’t buy this election!  Read about the role of his money and his

The senior Romney probably died of fast food ingestion.

Romney's dad George was served  a Big Mac every day. Maybe that explains why Mitt is serving up Whoppers!

True! Except Mitt's slogan isn't "Have it Your Way".

It's:"Have it my way or you don't get the sonovab1tch..."

Please Mitt, enough of the distractions.  Please show us the original copy of your long form tax returns.   You can't can you, because it doesn't exist.

So will Mitt receive free Chick-fil-A's for life? Or will he waffle his way out of following the right wing herd on this one?

Heh. Mitt gets free breakfasts for life at "Waffle House" but he hasn't owned up to it yet...

Waiting to hear that Christie got a "free burger for life" card, too...

Appearances seem to indicate he's been using his.

All I'm feeling now is a sudden craving for a hamburger. Particularly like they had before they invented the Big Mac® and Quarter Pounder®. And remembering the goofy neon walking hamburgerhead with the sign that said over x million served. Am I showing my age yet?

I remember some of those too, although a few McD's are being built retrostyle just like the originals, down to the walking head. It's interesting that the original menu was really bare bones, similar to how In-N-Out and Five Guys are today.

Neat story, except for the part where Mitt went through his dad's drawers looking for something to steal.

Maybe young Mitt only kept finding old tax returns. No wonder he's scared of them today.

I'm going to give that one a pass.  George Romney did a thing for someone while they were still small and said person was eternally grateful.  It's just like how real entrepreneurs - the ones who, with limited resources available, build businesses from the ground up and make it work - are far more grateful to the government than their children and far more willing to pay their fair share.

According to Obama, they didn't make that happen.

That paycheck you earned today.  Did you get it by going to work?  How did you get there?  Was it across the roads paid for by government?  Was it travelling past street lights that were built by government and funded by government?  Or did you perhaps take the public transit which in most places is built, run and subsidized by the government.  Did you go to the washroom today?  Did you use a toilet that was connected to the city's sewer line - which was built and maintained by the government?  Did you turn on a light using electricity from an electric grid built and subsidized (and sometimes run) by the government?  Did you happen to drive on the Interstate - a network of roads built by the biggest public works project ever by Eisenhower?

I could go on, or I could just stop here with a simple "idiot".

Yeah all the roads and interstate highways that led to suburban expansion had nothing to do with Mickey D's being able to take a good idea and grow easily and rapidly

America provides the foundation for success. I love America and the idea that we are a collective society. Out of many one - E pluribus unum, baby!

Yawn. Mc Donald's customers and suppliers get to their stores via roads paid for by taxpayers. That is the entire gist of what Obama said. So you are either uninformed or purposefully misleading. Both are common traits in Republicans.

McDonald's customers eat meat inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture.  They are protected against fire by local government employees.  They are confident that the money they tender will be accepted by McDonald's because the United States Government stands behind it.

Kevin Groenhagen, on the other hand, is a hermit hunter-gatherer.  How he is able to post on the Government-created Internet is beyond my comprehension.
