Pro-Balance Bias at the New York Times

For all the criticism directed at the New York Times over its coverage of the presidential election (and I am curious what would happen if someone tried to troll Malia’s chums), their real bias is the same as most other reporters: in favor of an interesting race. At this point, that means dutifully reporting the empty portion of every glass of good news handed to Barack Obama. Take this consideration of Powell’s endorsement:

Mr. Powell’s support of Mr. Obama was not a surprise to people who know him well and within Washington’s foreign policy establishment, but the Obama campaign welcomed it as a powerful reassurance to voters about Mr. Obama’s national security credentials. Other voters, however, could discount it as an action of a disgruntled member of the Bush administration.

Yeah, that’d be a real problem if, you know, we weren’t ALL most Americans weren’t also* basically “disgruntled” Bush supporters. Aren’t the Republicans with credibility problems the ones who haven’t distanced themselves from W? That appears to be what McCain thinks.

*Got a little carried away with my point. Was speaking of this 92% of Americans, not “all.” Not even myself.
