When they [the Dems] launched their Six for ’06 campaign, none of them thought they actually had a prayer of winning the Senate.
Funny, I think that when a lot of people voted for the Democrats, none of them thought they actually had a prayer of winning the Senate.
More seriously: I think I understand the reasoning behind scrapping the feel-good stuff and rebuilding the first 100 hours as a confrontation over Iraq (hey, it is the issue dominating our political debate right now), but I also wonder if the Dems are missing an opprotunity to do send some broadly positive message (raise the minimum wage! immigration compromise!) before stepping into an issue that is only a winner if you don’t have to offer a solution. (Which is how the Dems made it work for them in the midterms.) — Ana Marie Cox
