NRA’s New Ad: Obama a “Hypocritical Elitist”

The National Rifle Association asks, "Are the President's children more important than yours?" UPDATE: WH calls the ad "repugnant and cowardly."

As President Obama prepares to unveil his proposals on gun control today, the National Rifle Association takes preemptive action.   Watch below the new ad “Stand Up and Fight” calling for armed guards in every school:

UPDATE:  The White House and the NRA have since responded to “Stand Up and Fight,” according to TPM.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam:

“Whoever thinks the ad is about President Obama’s daughters are missing the point completely or they’re trying to change the subject. This ad is about keeping our children safe. And the President said he was skeptical about the NRA proposal to put policemen in all schools in this country. Yet he and his family are beneficiaries of multiple law enforcement officers surrounding them 24 hours a day.”

 White House Press Secretary Jay Carney:

“Most Americans agree that a president’s children should not be used as pawns in a political fight. But to go so far as to make the safety of the president’s children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly.”

In announcing his new plan on gun violence today, President Obama said,”While reducing gun violence is a complicated challenge, protecting our children from harm shouldn’t be a divisive one.”

All 2nd amendment and NRA talk is bs. Follow the money. It's congressmen and senators God given right (so they think) to take all bribes (contributions) and vote their conscience, or lake thereof, so that they can keep getting elected.  They no longer work for the people who elected them, they work for the lobbyists.

NRA leadership must believe that Americans cannot think.  The President's children need protection simply because of all the crazy extremists who would do anything to harm the President and the United States.  The President's children are not like all of the other kids in this country simply because they are the President's children.

Am I the only one to think that the NRA ad smacks of a Ford F-150 commercial?  Where's Leary?

No one in America constantly gets death threats like the Presidents of the US.  Muslims would love it if Obama and his family didn't have body guards.

The NRA embodies the fear and insecurity many conservatives feel towards a changing world, which they deal with by smothering their lives in guns like a warm blanket.  So it is logical to expect they would react with extreme emotion to any suggestion they can't have any gun they want.

Now consider that they cannot understand the needs of the children of the President of the United States of America are an exception to normal society.  It seems conservatives often mix issues and ideas for the sake of whatever point they are trying to make.

In this case, it appears the NRA is trying to find another way to militarize our society by putting more guns into place, instead of less.   And if they don’t get their way, apparently laws will be broken (Ted Nugent, for one).

If you have a subset of people who reject their leader for his color, and who also have a diminishing amount of respect for the civil contract and the democratic process, then what we have on our hands is a group of people who don’t want to be American anymore.  And many of them are members of the NRA.

If that’s the case, please feel free to leave, although I would be curious to see who would have you.  I can assure you that I care more for this country than you do, because I choose to put people before fear, not in front or behind a gun.

FYI, the 2nd amendment is but one tiny fraction of the Constitution, there are other things to consider in there.  Have a look.

Guns don’t kill people

But PEOPLE WITH GUNS sure do

Most Celebrity Babies > Presidential Kids.  Might not have been the case when Secret Service was started, but honestly a crazy girl is going to go after Justin Biebers future baby. Can his security team carry full auto rifles as well?

Wolf with dentures kills 5 sheep; sheep ban dentures.

Mr. President, stop being a hypocrite and do the one thing that will actually save lives. Ban the sale of Alcohol after 10pm. More people are killed each day from drunk drivers then all gun crime combined. I know the majority of Americans are hypocrites and love to look down their nose at the AR15, but lets be honest and real. We all know someone that is a drunk and has driven, or hit their kids, or abused someone. Not even 1% of gun crime is caused with a semi-auto rifle.

Why isn't your priority to do the one thing that will actually stop the abuse and murder of 1000's of children each year? That's right, you love your wine more then a redneck loves his guns.

The right wing nuts fail to make the distinction between a President's children, who very well might be a target of some political lunatic, and all other school children sitting innocently in their schoolrooms. They also fail to acknowledge that the NRA is a marketing arm of the gun industry. The death and damage the gun industry causes is seen merely as collateral damage in pursuit of profits. The NRA is SELLING guns, not "rights" and not "home protection." As a byproduct, there is blood in our communities. Get it straight, everyone, the NRA is a marketing agency. Diabolical, heinous, and blood-drenched. Remember the bodies of the children - one day we will see the mayhem. Meanwhile, the sight so traumatized the police and medics that they are permanently scarred. This is what the gun industry wants for our country. They hate America. Absolutely hate it.

Nothing like a bunch of hypocritical elitists calling the president a hypocritical elitists.

So their plan is to turn the United states of America into a police state so that we have the tools to resists becoming a police state?

Perhaps the NRA neaderthals will take comfort in knowing the shooters at Aurora and Sandy Hook would have completely agreed with them.  After all, shooting 20 first-graders between 5 and 11 times each requires more fire power than brain power.

 "Soon … all the *libtards* will slink away from the comments section due to the crystalline, high test fuel, unassailable logic and reason of the pro-gun conservatives, so adept at the expository of their stunning, brilliant arguments which far exceed even the once unreachable degree of a logical infallibility, providing arguments and reason so pure, so perfect in construct, so breathtakingly thought changing, one could only assume they were forged in the Gods’ crucibles on Mt Olympus, shaped into perfection by Athena herself, and flung down as bolts of pure energy by Zeus."

@BruceS78 The girls' school, Sidwell Friends, had armed guards prior to the president's daughters going there.

@Dusselharf That's a lot of words that could have been summed up in just one sentence: "I, Dusselharf, am an ignoramus."

If you want to see a group that truly disrespects the civil contract, look at the socialists, including Obama the Incompetent, who are attacking the principles of America's founding.

@broey77 What an unfortunate little fairytale you told. Gun owners are to what as wolves are to sheep. Take away the wolves' teeth and you save the sheep. Take away the guns and you save human lives. Thank you for the clarity.

@broey77

When a Celebrity Baby is kidnapped, generally you're going to have to pay a ransom of a few million dollars and (apologies for sounding calous here) if the child dies, it's sad but not detrimental..  When the President's kids are kidnapped by terrorists, you have a national security CRISIS - that affects everybody.  EVERYBODY.  And I'm not just talking about it being sad.

@broey77 Cupcake, I'm sure you're grinning toothlessly and high-fiving yourself at your deep insight, but repeating the same  silly talking points we've heard ten thousand times before isn't helping your cause.

@broey77 Lets be honest and real.....Nobody is going to take all of your guns away. Secondly, doing nothing about the weak gun laws in this country is worse.

The argument that "other things kill people so why bother enforcing stricter laws" is not only self defeating, it's also childish and shallow.

@YesterdaysWine

It's not the political lunatics that are the problem.  If the President's kids are kidnapped by terrorists, you have a National Security emergency.  How can a man choose between being a father and being Commander-in-Chief?  And that affects everybody far more than *anything* a simple tragic event - whether the President's kids or anybody else - could possible have

@forgottenlord @broey77 How does it affect everybody? The policy of this country is that we do not negotiate with terrorists. If the president's daughters were kidnapped by terrorists, why would we expect the government to act any differently than it would with the kidnapping of any other American?

Don, just a few days ago one of my friends was getting on me for not owning a gun. He asked me what I'd do if some lunatic with a gun showed up at my door. I told him "I'd ask you to leave it in your car".

KevinGroenhagen
KevinGroenhagen

@forgottenlord @KevinGroenhagen First you liberals argue that the president's daughters should be treated differently because they are the president's daughters, and now you ask us to put Obama in the position of "any" father. You guys couldn't make a consistent argument if your lives depended on it.

forgottenlord

@KevinGroenhagen

Incredible, truly incredible.

I don't think there's a person on this forum that says that isn't the right approach.  I'm saying "look me in the eye and tell me that *any* father could reasonably be expected to give that order".

forgottenlord

@Dachman

I'm trying to understand to your point, but I'm not sure I get it.  Oh, I get the idea that you have guns therefore you could conquer us if you wanted to, but your point just feels.... empty.

You see, I don't think you're a criminal.  And even if you were, I have a hard time believing the 250K new members are all criminals.  So I doubt they're going to come to my house, break down the door, rape my wife, and steal my things.  Further, I have a *really* hard time believing that anyone would do it because they have guns and I don't - they'll either do it or not do it because they think they can pull it off and there's sufficient benefit to them for it.

So what possible benefit would you have for having guns when we don't?  The only thing I can think of is armed revolution and, sure, you would have the advantage over us in that category except for one important point: to revolt is to revolt against the nation and if you're going to start shooting people, the military is going to stop you - and your 250K don't have tanks.

So....what's your point?

sacredh
sacredh

Don, I always call before I stop at someone's house. Most of my friends that own weapons (arsenals) keep them locked up and hardly ever even use them. The hunters are a different case. I don't have any problem with people that hunt and support their right to own weapons for home protection or recreation. I do support a complete ban on assault weapons and large clips though.

To add to this, I sincerely hope your friend doesn't always answer his door with his gun drawn expecting a firefight.  If so don't ever sneak up on him.

DonQuixotic
DonQuixotic

@sacredh

Lol!

Of course if some nut with a gun shows up at your door, as soon as you open it you'll get shot (unless you walk around pointing your gun at everything in eyesight).  That's the one thing people the support armed guard in schools don't realize - unless you're expecting an attack from someone the odds of you putting them down before they get you are extremely unlikely.
