Sen. Rand Paul continued the GOP’s war on the Democrats’ “war on women” campaign Sunday when he appeared on CNN’s State of the Union and called it “trumped up,” while also admitting that “there might have been” a “war on women.”
“The whole thing of the ‘war on women,’ I sort of laughingly say, ‘Yeah, there might have been – but the women are winning it,’” the Republican senator from Kentucky said, pointing to women’s progress at medical and law schools, Political Ticker reports.
“And I think some of the victimology and all of this other stuff is trumped up,” Paul continued. “We don’t get to any good policy by playing some sort of charade that somehow one party doesn’t care about women or one party is not in favor of women advancing, or other people advancing.”
He also said separately in an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press that the war on women was “concocted” by Democrats, and went on to call former President Bill Clinton’s relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky “predatory.”
Paul’s comments were in response to Mike Huckabee’s controversial comments last week about women’s birth control and libido.
