Vice President Joe Biden was kind enough to call Marty Walsh to congratulate him on his electoral victory Tuesday to become the next mayor of Boston. “You son of a gun, Marty!” he said. “You did it!”
One problem: Biden had the wrong Walsh.
“We’ve had this for the past 20 years happening back and forth,” said non-mayor-elect Walsh, who happens to be a former staffer for Sen. Edward Kennedy. “Marty tells a funny story from 2006 when Kennedy thanked me from the stage and his mother thought it was for him.
Non-mayor Walsh offered to help Biden track down the right Walsh. He said he got other jubilant calls from around the country too, and probably wasn’t the only one to receive an errant congrats that night.
“We’re a dime a dozen in Boston,” he told the Boston Globe. “I probably know eight Marty Walshes.”
