Massachusetts Sentor John Kerry, who was confirmed Tuesday as Secretary of State, bid farewell to the Senate in an emotional speech Wednesday afternoon.
Here are some highlights from the speech, including Kerry’s reflection on Sen. Ted Kennedy and President Kennedy:
Senator Kerry’s resignation takes effect Friday, after which he will be sworn in as the 68th Secretary of State. Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts appointed his former chief of staff, William Cowan, to replace Mr. Kerry in the Senate until a special election is held.
