On the one hand, you’d like to think that this sort of depravity will repel the Afghan people and dim their already limited sympathies for the Taliban. On the other hand, almost all the news from Afghanistan of late has been bad, and I suspect that if BP weren’t dominating the news we’d hear a much louder conversation about whether Obama’s Afghanistan surge is primed to be a major disappointment.
