John McCain is Angry

You’re surprised, right? The amazing thing remains McCain’s–and other uber-hawks’–lack of concern about one big fact on the ground in Afghanistan: What sort of Afghan government are we dealing with now? The Senator is only concerned about giving General McChrystal what he wants–an important part of the equation that has to be taken seriously, but not the only part of the equation (other parts, in addition to Karzai’s intentions, include the intelligence community’s assessment of the relative strength of Al Qaeda after the Predator attacks and the state of the Pakistani offensive against the Taliban).

Yes, it would be nice if we had a decision sooner rather than later. But I’d rather have a later and wiser decision than a quicker and dumber one.
