Hillary Clinton Advises Women To ‘Grow Skin Like A Rhinoceros’

Quotes another former First Lady

Hillary Clinton offered some leadership advice to women in public roles during an event at New York University on Friday.

“One of the best pieces of advice that I’ve ever heard from anyone is Eleanor Roosevelt in the 1920s, who said that women in politics or in public roles should grow skin like a rhinoceros,” she said.

Joined on stage by her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, and philanthropist Melinda Gates, the former Secretary of State and  2016 presidential candidate-in-waiting discussed the importance of learning from criticism.

“There’s that old saying, ‘Your critics can be your best friends’ if you listen to them and learn from them but don’t get dragged down by them.”

The comments came after personal documents from one of Clinton’s late friends were released, revealing new insights into how Clinton dealt with setbacks in the White House during her time as First Lady.

This is one advice I beg to disagree with Hilary.

Men love our women with smooth silky skin...

You all make me laugh. A woman is born in a time where the only jobs approved of for women were teacher or nurse, grows up and excels enough at her studies to graduate with honours, raises a good and accomplished daughter, and helps her chosen life partner achieve his highest aspirations. Afterward, she serves in the Senate of the united states, having been duly elected by the citizens of her state. For these accomplishments (and regardless of her political record or her husband's, these are all unassailable accomplishments), she is insulted in language no man would have to face(her age, her emotions, and her looks have all come under fire). Then, when she is honest in quoting another great woman about how hard they WILL attack you if you choose this predominantly male career, you sad pathetic wretches take it as another excuse to attempt to hurt her. I'm not a particular fan of senator Clinton, but thank you for proving her point admirably.

Grow a thick skin? For what? American women are practically worshipped just because they are women, and they STILL think they're oppressed.

She is right. Shamelessness with no sense of accountability is an integral part of the Hillary persona. And so is lying and corruption.

Hillary is right.  There is a lot of flak that's coming her way, and that will be thrown at so many females and female candidates by the misogynist wing of the Republican party.  (This is basically 90% of the GOP.)

Of the many posts on this and other blogs citing the Republican war on women, there are often counter-posts demanding just how and when this war was declared.  Anyone who can't view the current trends in the Republican party as being directed against women must be intentionally deaf and blind, or just plain dumb.

The Republican anti-abortion stance is about controlling women's bodies.  And the GOP wants that control.  Their mantra that they're pro-life is nonsense.  They're not.  They have no interest in anyone after birth and their only interest in the unborn is the extent to which women may wish to exert their right to control themselves rather than submit to Republican domination.

The Republican's have always had a sleeper agenda of ending contraception.  Their anti-contraception movement was given new steam by the mandate in ACA that all insurance plans must cover contraceptives.  If there was ever a demonstration of the GOP's pathological need to control women, it's their stance against contraception.  They couch it in all sorts of terms, including religious freedom, but those are a camouflage.  It's all about controlling women.

Employers who have religious objections against contraception have no ability (1st Amendment) to enforce those beliefs on anyone else.  Jehovah's Witness employers don't ask to prevent their employees from getting blood transfusions covered.  Christian Scientist employers haven't made a point of not overing employees' medical insurance at all.  Yet these would be consistent with their religious beliefs.  What, therefore, is the basis for some employers objecting to covering contraception?  Basically, there is only one: they need to control.

The GOP goes farther that that.  Much of their campaign against government spending that actually helps people (education, transportation, mental health services, health care, etc.) targets programs that are generally of great interest to people struggling to make ends meet.  In particular, these include single parent families, the vast majority of which are headed by women.

So, Hillary is right: women need to grow thick skins.  Republicans will be out in force, throwing all sorts of misogynistic slurs at them, and they need to be able to respond coolly enough to make those insulting them look like the fools they are.

@EliceSmith  Here is a jeopardy type question for you before you laugh. Name one notable  accomplishment of Hillary as Sec of State. Just one. You are the type susceptible to celebrity worshipping. Not surprising if you also voted for Obama twice despite of his incompetence.

@GuoLiang

Grow a thick skin because the Republican party essentially has an agenda to regulate every aspect of women's lives.  The Republican war on women is real, whether you wish to acknowledge it or not.

The GOP absolutely has a misogynistic agenda.  It involves preventing women from controlling their own bodies, but it spills over into other aspects of life that disproportionately affect women:

1. the GOP program of anti-abortion, which has extended to the point where they even passed laws in Virginia mandating invasive ultrasounds, literally violating women's bodies, to prevent women from exercising their right to abortion.

2. their jihad against contraception.  Women need to be able to control their lives, and contraception is central to that ability.  The GOP has in any number of places made it clear that they want to outlaw or severely restrict women's access to contraception.

3. the Republican attempts to eviscerate all governmental programs that actually help people live their lives.  The GOP has tried repeatedly, and continues to try, to eliminate or cripple programs that involve government aid to education, health care, transportation, consumer safety, workplace safety, ...  These programs disproportionately affect people who are struggling to make ends meet and who rely on these programs for their ability to live from day to day.  Many of these families are single parent families headed, in vast majority, by women.

You can deny all you wish, and continue to try to cast a blind eye to this all you wish.  Women, however, are sensitive to these matters, and women vote.

@ReneDemonteverde

NO sense of accountability?  How about lying and fabricating "evidence" to launch a criminal war that led to 4500 American deaths and tens of thousands of wounded in iraq?  How about starting a huge recession and then making it almost impossible to get us out of it by crippling government spending?  How about preventing people from getting jobs?

Where has Hillary lied?  Where has she deceived the country?  Where has anything she has said led us to launch wars the killed thousands of Americans and hundred of thousands of others?

Try living in this universe, rather than the alternative one that Fox News and Rush Limbaugh create out of lies, fantasies and illusions.

@ReneDemonteverde  Let's put her up against your favorite, Rene.   Let's let America pick between Palin and Clinton. After Bush jr, America might be tired of ignorance.   Just because you have a brain doesn't mean you know how to use.  Bush didn't use his intelligence; Palin certainly blocks her intelligence with Fox ideology.   Both are ignorant of the world and what's going on.

It's time for a smart woman.

 Governor Sarah Palin is a self-made women with an impressive career who broke into politics without the head start of a powerful husband or father and has a history of being a reformer and taking on powerful interests for the benefit of ordinary people. City council, mayor, Governor, oil and gas commission, VP candidate, already vetted, been scrutinized every way possible and still standing strong. Long list of accomplishments and over 20 years of experience. As Governor Sarah Palin didn’t just cut spending; she saved, reformed, and prioritized like a good fiscal manager. She invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, paid down debt, invested $2.6 billion in an education fund for the future, and funded a Senior Benefits Program to provide support for low-income Alaskan seniors. In stark contrast to President Obama and other governors whose fiscal records are dogged by credit downgrades, Palin left Alaska with an improved credit rating during and following her tenure as governor. Standard & Poor’s raised Alaska’s credit rating from AA to AA+ in April 2008. Then in 2010, both Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s upgraded Alaska to AAA for the first time in the state’s history due to policies enacted by Palin that made the state’s finances more than solvent. Taking on corruption and crony capitalism has always been a cornerstone of Sarah Palin's agenda; in Alaska she did take on the old-boy network — the oil companies and her own party . As oil and gas commissioner, Sarah Palin called out the unethical practices of members of her own party.As Governor, she sought to end the back room deals and improper relationships between oil companies and politicians.

After the 2008 election Sarah Palin helped lead Republicans to the greatest congressional victory in several generations during the 2010 election with her endorsements and rallies all over the country ;she has endorsed 73 candidates for the US House of Representatives and Senate; state governors and attorney generals. Her success rate is at 69%. 18 out of 20 targets in her Take Back the 20 campaign ; this is a 90% success rate! Sarah Palin also had a very strong hand in the party’s few successes during this election . Sarah Palin campaigned for constitutional conservatives like Ted Cruz, Deb Fischer, Paul Gosar, resulting in 5 conservatives being elected to the Senate and 32 conservatives to the House. She has repeatedly been a leading voice against the dangers of ObamaCare and the risks of President Obama’s approach to energy and was the first Republican to make a high-profile critique of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing, though even earlier she had marked the collapsing value of the dollar as one of her issues.

Sarah Palin has offered many statements on issues such as health care, the Federal Reserve’s money printing in funding our federal deficit, Crony Capitalism, energy independence, foreign policy, etc)

@jmac @ReneDemonteverde One problem there J, this is the same BS the left tried to sell the American people about that "genius" and "new type" of politician Barry 0.  Wah, wah, wah,

@ARTRaveler @DavidStrayer

You're right.  I think what it is, is fear.  They're so afraid of her that they'll say and do virtually anything.  And, if you look at some of the posts from the … ahem … more primitive among us, what reeks is their terror of the possibility (likelihood?) that there's little they can do to stop her except spew more venom.

Interestingly, this has the opposite effect of what's intended: the nastier and more inane their comments become (witness some of those above), the more strongly committed her followers are.

The only way the Republicans can win this battle is if they disenfranchise women.  Maybe they'll devise some voter ID strategy to do that?

@GuoLiang @DavidStrayer

It matters nothing what you think.  What matters is what women think.  And the verdict is in: in Virginia's recent off-year governor's election, single women voted for a very weak Democratic candidate by a margin of 42% over a fire-breathing misogynistic Republican ticket.

As for controlling compassion, I think you should try a little of it sometime.  It might help.  If one is to err, it's better to err on the side of compassion than on the side of brutality.

Sarah Pailin is a national, and international joke.

She couldn't even serve out a full term as governor, under the gun for charges of abuse of power and misuse of her office.
