Former first lady ends up in Houston hospital for New Year's

Former U.S. first lady Barbara Bush was hospitalized in Houston, Texas, on Monday “for treatment on a respiratory related issue,” per a statement from the office of her husband, former President George H.W. Bush.

The full statement, as issued Tuesday evening:

“Former First Lady Barbara Bush was admitted to Methodist Hospital in Houston’s Texas Medical Center yesterday for treatment on a respiratory related issue. She is in great spirits, has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care. Updates will be issued when warranted.”

Bush was first lady of the U.S. from 1989-1993. She is 88.
