Federal Officials Report a Late Surge in Insurance Enrollment

As a Dec. 24 midnight enrollment deadline approached, the federal government announced Tuesday that HealthCare.gov logged some 2 million visits on Dec. 23. Consumers were scrambling to select plans before Christmas in order to get coverage that begins Jan. 1.

The high traffic volume caused HealthCare.gov’s queuing system to kick in on Monday, forcing consumers to wait in a virtual line. Volume remained higher than average on Tuesday, but the queuing system was not used, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In a statement, CMS spokeswoman Julie Bataille said the federal government’s enrollment assistance call center received some 250,000 calls on Monday.

States running their own insurance marketplaces under the Affordable Care Act reportedly similarly high interest from consumers seeking coverage in recent days. California reported that more than 77,000 residents enrolled in health plans between Dec. 20 and Dec. 22; the state has reported more than 400,000 sign ups in total. New York said Tuesday afternoon that more than 25,000 people signed up for coverage through its exchange since Monday—214,077 have signed up in the state since Oct. 1.

Bataille said consumers who begin the process of selecting health plans after midnight Tuesday will be able to purchase coverage that begins Feb. 1. Open enrollment for individual market plans available through Obamacare’s insurance exchanges lasts until March 31, 2014.

By this time only fools would believe any press release, jobs and economic reports statistical data release by the administration Constantly lying and making up figures as they go. If people haven any idea what they are up against yet, there is no hope for this country.

Obama care is really about implanting everyone with a microchip. They want to take control of your health, safety and well being. Once implanted with a microchip they can control your meds, torture and even kill you. It enable uberveillance. That means it allows law enforcement to see through your eyes what you see, hear what you hear, know where you are at every moment and "know what you are thinking". See "Safeguards in a World of Ambient Intelligence" by Springer page 9. See "A note on Uberveillance" by MG Michael and Katina Michael. The torture is the worst. They tase your head into seizures, your heart into a heart attack and your private parts. It is atrocious and heinous. I know. They have been torturing me for six years. Now, they come to the doctors office and tell my doctor what meds to put me on. Lie to me about cancer so they can implant me. They are atrocious heinous people. Don't get Obama care or your life will not be lived - it will be survived!

Like the boy who cried wolf too often Obama with his lies has no credibility anymore. A congenital liar if there ever was one. Only time will tell if the surge is true. But again nobody knows how much of it was Medicaid, what percentage are young people as they wont release the facts.

If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.

We are a nation of procrastinators. Ever try to go to the post office on April 15th?

@ReneDemonteverdeThey are so much less trustworthy then random people on the internet.  At least that has been my experience...

@ReneDemonteverde@DavidStrayerThere are no goal posts because it isn't a game, mouthbreather. It's a law that we want to work. Unlike some reprehensible traitors who-will-not-be-named-yet-richly-deserve-death who gleefully rub their hands at its problems because dead poor people in the street is a talking point for them.

A bloo bloo bloo. None of those people have ever been President. Also, Georgw Bush and Sarah Palin ARE dumb. Dumb as a bag of hammers. Ted Cruz is only marginally brighter and three times as greasy. Also, if you actually knew who Abdul Assad is, I'll eat my shoes.

Unrelated note: Could you be a little harsher with your insults? It would really help me out with something.

@Curious_Quiche Sen Ted Cruz not much of a scholar ? The eminent professor Alan Dershowitz called Sen Cruz the most intelligent student he ever mentored, Even admit he could not defeat Cruz in a debate. Obama ? Come on Curious. You know better than that. He had his records sealed. Spent millions to hide if from the public. And all he has to show is his 57 state knowledge ? People like you would call George Bush and Sarah Palin dumb. But you would not have much problem  viewing their grades. Like Abdul Assad bin Baz says Do not stand between a fool and his delusions. So I will not.

Every President that has ever taken oath has had their records sealed. Every one. Stop pretending like he's a secret moron, yet somehow a master of chicanery and evil schemes. Just calling hime idiot over and over doesn't obviate his talents.

I don't think Ted Cruz is much of a scholar, but if he is, that's even worse, because the government he's trying to bring about is treasonous and he knows better.

However, for once, I think you have given some pretty good advice that I may take to heart, slick. ; )

@Curious_Quiche BS. I dont claim to be a scholar and claim to finish High School but will present my grades, low and insignificant they may be if applying for  a job if requested. Obama ran for Presidency sealed and kept his records from public eye. Only claiming that he is a scholar and a Constitutional scholar yet. But nowhere in his five year reign did he show his knowledge about the constitution. If you want a real scholar study Sen Ted Cruz. Seems you are the type who would buy Pacific Ocean beach properties in Utah if the Idiot posing as President ask you to, Go better yet play with yourself. Something good might happen. Posting your stupid comments here is not doing you good or for that matter anybody.

Did you read what you wrote? And you want to spell something for me? This should be priceless. Also, stop maligning a man who is smarter and wiser than you could ever dream of being. You can't even string a few words together properly and you call our President an idiot? Go play in traffic.

No, bad armpit smeller. It is a game to the ones who crafted this bill and made it into law. Everyone wants it to work. It is just passing this without anybody including the Idiot posing as President understanding it that is the problem. So they passed it and found they do not like it. What now ? Return this used car to the dealer ?You have to pass it to understand it. Do I have to spell it for you ?
