Obama Wishes Washington Really Was Like ‘House of Cards’

President Barack Obama is apparently a fan of the Netflix series House of Cards, which took Washington by storm last year.

At the start of a meeting with tech industry CEOs on NSA surveillance, Obama quipped “I’m just wondering if [Netflix CEO Reed Hastings] brought advance copies of House of Cards,” according to a pool video camera in the room.

As the CEOs laughed and joked that Obama should make a cameo appearance in the series, the president continued to praise the series, which revolves around a power-hungry House Majority Whip played by actor Kevin Spacey.

“I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient,” Obama said in his first public remarks on the show. “It’s true. It’s like Kevin Spacey, man this guy’s getting a lot of stuff done.”

Season two of the series, an adaptation of a British series of the same name, debuts in February. The video introduction to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner earlier this year played off the series.

As a Canadian, I look with haughty disregard for the petty squablings of the divided American nation, wrought asunder by a comment about a TV show.

Also, we beat you in the Olympics.

OK, I deleted my Google account, and now I want to see if I'm still hooked up, or is the hook IN?  Can I comment if I just deleted my stupid google account?

Obviously HoC already got the hot tip about PRISM, but who tipped them off to GCHQ's mindscrewing ways, EFFECTS?  Those stories about GCHQ doing our dirty work for US to "take paranoia to a whole new level" broke post-production at NBC Investigations online.

Don't miss those stories!  NBC News misses them Nightly.

How many ways can NSA say, "Don't screw with NSA!"  Ask GCHQ!

It's NOT?  Could have fooled me with that cyber-stinger set up they used to put that journalist on the trail of two murders out of commission.  All he wanted was proof of contacts in telephony.  I really feel for the guy they already have in their net who they force to entrap said journalist as he's really an adversary of such cyber abuse upon those who only wish to seek the truth and expose those who would deny us our rights or lives.

Were they trying to force that kid who hacked Justor into such a duty?  Why not force such folks into caves to build rockets for drones to kill innocents as was done deep in the Vosages.   Honest to good, I was just volksmarching along the Blies and Google pointed this out to me.

Isn't it funny when the dumbest person in the room has all the power.  Precisely what's wrong with this country when the commander in grief gets his management training from a couple of TV shows (includes West Wing).

One day they'll have a show based on Obama's presidency. Yesterday the president welcomed America's first transgender baby to the White House. I'm pretty sure that's a first for a U.S. president. http://bit.ly/1hZF2M6

Amazing how a simple article about a joke about a TV show, brings out so much anger, idiocy and hate.

President Obama is moving the country towards socialism. The corporate run GOP is disentegrating day by day. This is good for the country. The wealthy and special interests that run the country have had their chance and failed miserably. The tea party is directly responsible for turning the GOP into a party run by old white male bigots that treat women, minorities and the young like second class citizens. I thank the tea party for killing the GOP brand.

Obama is ruthlessly inefficient - does that count?

Oh, Mr. Obama, so you want things to be "ruthlessly efficient?"

Take a hike. Pack up and get out of the White House. Things will get "ruthlessly efficient" in roughly three minutes.

We have half of his wish...Obama's administration is ruthlessly inefficient.

Surveillance  says...BING!

So, how is this probable?  I would assume without proper "authentication" my access would be DENIED.  So why the hell do we have to get on some swift rail to cold storage just to comment, or are you also churning hay into gold, TIME?

@pemullenIts even funnier that the dumbest people in power seem to come from the GOP ranks. Steve Stockman, Louie Gohmert and Steve King come directly to mind.

One important difference.  the Iraq war did eventually end (pretty much after the surge gave us victory, before Obama got there).  But we will be stuck with obamacare forever unless it is actually repealed.

For a group of nothng but racists and sexists, the tea party seems to have a curious fondness for black, hispanic, asian, and women conservatives.  In fact these sexist white men have women heading up more than 50% of the tea party groups in the nation, with many minorites heading tea party groups as well.  That is because conservatives dont consider skin color or gender first, like leftists constantly do, they only look at whether somebody is talking good sense.  But to leftists like sacred these minority conservatives probably dont count as real minorities anyway, being traitors to their class, or whatever.

@sacredh An american who knows the difference between socialism and communism? How is this possible?
Maybe there is a future where americans aren't running around guns blazing as if it were the wild west.

@mantisdragon91 @pemullen Even dumber is when people think this type of comment is anything but, well a comment both in jest and in appreciation of someone's work (the show's producer).

@richard40 And what's wrong with Obamacare? Poor people able to purchase insurance on their own? Stop watching Fox News already... What we really need is Universal Healthcare, screw the health insurance industry which is anti-human

mantisdragon91

@richard40

Victory?!? We destabilized the entire Middle East and put Iran and Saudi Arabia on a collision course, and that is your idea of victory? And speaking of Saudi Arabia, why exactly was their involvement in 9/11 hidden from the American public and their nationals helped escape the country? And of course there are the Trillion or more the needless war cost us. How many millions of Americans could we get health insurance for with that money?

@MortenBondeStenger, I work for the feds and have given up trying to explain the difference between socialists and communists. It's like trying to sign the difference between industrial metal and classical music to a deaf person.

@LibSick, how many white, older GOP candidates have beaten the blck guy? None. The majority of the American people have rejected the GOP and tea party twice in the past two elections. The democrats have taken the popular vote for president in 5 out of the last 6 elections. The right wing looney tunes are a dying breed. thank you for helping it die.

@TeriCrossChetwood, I'm a socialst, a father, a husband and married to a white woman. About half of my closest friends are either conservatives or very conservative. I've went to a handful of tea party meetings with a couple of them just to see what they were like and they were all-white, mostly older and racist. I live in a conservative rural area of Ohio and I go by what I see, not by what others tell me. What I saw was nothing more than a bunch of bigots that hate a black president.

What is wrong with obamacare, well lets see.  Over 5M people have had policies they liked cancelled, while less than 2M have gotten insurance on the exchanges.  And that is just the individual market, wait till the next wave of cancellations hit when the employer mandates come onlie.  So far obamacare seems to be doing a far better job of uninsuring people than ensuring them.

And what do we have on the exchanges, higher cost, lwer deductables, and lousy hospital and network coverage, exactly what you would expect from a gov controlled monopoly.

And your liberal solution to a big gov fed program that has miserably failed, to go to an even bigger fed gov program, single payer, so we can fail even bigger, no thanks.

richard40
richard40

What is wrong with obamacare, well lets see.  With 5M people having policies they liked cancelled, and at best about 2M people purchasing policies on the exchange, that means on net obama has resulted in over twice as many people losing insurance coverage as getting it.  And that is just the individual market, once the employer mandates kick in, even more people will lose insurance.  It looks like so far obamacare is doing an excellent job of uninsuring people.

Then the obamacare policies have higher cost, higher deductables, and lousy doctor and hospital network coverage.  About what you would expect with a gov controlled monopoly.

As for single payer, typical for a liberal to suggest that the solution for a failing fed big gov takeover of healthcare is to replace it with an even bigger fed gov program, so it can fail even bigger, no thanks.

@richard40  Economic growth since 2008:

-2.8 2.51.8 2.8 2.89

Not robust, but not negative...except for the inherited growth from 2008....but thanks for showing you can't even do a basic google search.

Obama is too busy violating the constitution himself to clean anything up.  And what exactly has obama cleaned up.  Economic growth still stagnates, labor participation is still at a historic low, deficits and bloated spending continue, he continued or even expanded the NSA abuses, he sicced the IRS on political opponents, he spied onreporters with the DOJ, he has narrowed WH access for journalists (so much for transparency), and constanly used gov to enrich his cronies.

richard40
richard40

Obama is too busy perpetrating his own misdeeds against the constitition to clean up anything.  And what exactly did Obama clean up.  Our economy is still stagnant, the deficit and bloated spending continues, the number of employed people as compared to the labor force still declines, and obama has continued and even expanded the NSA surveliance, plus siccing the IRS on political opponents, and using the justice dept to spy on journalists, and restrict WH journalist access (so much for transparency), and constantly uses gov to enrich political cronies.

mantisdragon91
mantisdragon91

@richard40The best thing I can say about Obama is that he has done a nice job cleaning up the many messes of the last administration. The worst thing I can say is that he didn't hold them accountable for their many war crimes and misdeeds against the Constitution.

richard40
richard40

We defeated el quaida in Iraq militarily, and killed lots of them, and were able to leave without being shot at on the way out.  Compared to many wars that is pretty good.  But I will concede that the Iraq was not not very good at its political objectives, since their present government, while not actively hostile to te US, as Sadam Hussein was, is not exactly our friend either.  I will also cncede that it was probably not woth thecost.  As for the trillion spent in total on Iraq, Obamacare is now burning up close to that in a few years, and as I said before, Iraq is over, but Obamacare will be gutting us forever unless we repeal it.  But do you realize you are basically in a contest to say who was more crummy, Obama or Bush, when neither was particularly good.  If the best thing you can say about Obama is, he is not much more crummy than Bush, that is hardly a testimonial to his effectiveness.

jason024
jason024

@richard40 "good at policy" codeword for if he were a republican it would be ok.

Just admit it he is a moderate liberal who you hate.

richard40
richard40

I will admit obama has no peer when it comes to lying, getting peole to beleive his lies, and winning elections, but that skill alone does not make a good president.  If he was equally good at policy and management he would be a good president.

richard40
richard40

I dont have much choice about paying into SS, and since I was forced to pay for it, I will use it when older to try and get some of my own back.  And I can understand why all the od people who were also forced to pay into SS dont want it cut, they want their own back as well.  But you dont ask the real question do you, would I pay into SS if it was voluntary, and if I had the option to pay the same amount into a 401k, would I choose that option instead.
