Nelson Mandela's inauguration speech, May 10, 1994.

We understand it still that there is no easy road to freedom. We know it well that none of us acting alone can achieve success. We must therefore act together as a united people, for national reconciliation, for nation building, for the birth of a new world.

Let there be justice for all. Let there be peace for all. Let there be work, bread, water and salt for all. Let each know that for each the body, the mind and the soul have been freed to fulfill themselves.

Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the indignity of being the skunk of the world. Let freedom reign. The sun shall never set on so glorious a human achievement!

God bless Africa!

Thank you.

No, Mr. Mandela, thank you. And rest in peace. You have more than earned it.

Factoid: the very first political rally Obama attended was an anti-apartheid rally.

R.I.P. Mandela

The world grew brighter because of his life and is now a little darker because of his death.

Aright, heaven, no Robben Island jail cell for him - a nice mansion, please.

Sickening to see people all over CNN cheer Mandela's death, calling him a Marxist or a Terrorist.  These were tactics used to denounce him during apartheid.  The only conclusion I can draw is that these people either supported apartheid or are straight up bigots.

Wingers, always lacking in class.

Okay, cue the ankle biting.

I suggest that we go into poff mode.

@DonQuixotic I remember in college, at the University of Texas (in the People's Republic of Austin), there were regular anti-apartheid rallies on the mall, and there were always petitions being circulated asking American companies, like Coca Cola, to divest of all South African operations.

The mall at UT was like the Twitter of its day – that was where I learned what was going on in the world. Just walk around and see who was protesting what. Austin was a fabulous place to go to school.

@DonQuixotic, and then went on to help his community by being a community organizer. I never understood how anyone thought that helping those around you was an insult. Shakes head.

@Tero, one of those incredibly rare individuals that help to change the world.

“He is now resting. He is now at peace. Our nation hast lost its greatest son. Our people have lost its father.”

Nelson Mandela has died, South African President Jacob Zuma announces.

I'm more a celebrate the memory of his life the mourn his passing. He lived a long life, now it's time for afterlife to be blessed by his eternity.

@hivemaster Part of me wonders if there isn't some subversive employee doing this on purpose.

Either that, or MickeyD's is just really, really incompetent.

@hivemaster What you don't have a dog walker, au pair and a fitness trainer? You need to better budget your $8.75 a hour.

In his Bible Jesus is called Jesus 'Meat Cleaver' Christ. He's steal your pants, eat your grub and make you sick type of guy.

@mantisdragon91 Clearly this guy hasn't spoken with anyone active in church outreach organizations, because they will all tell him that, no, churches can't do this. There are far too many people in need, and churches just don't have the resources.

Idiot.

@DonQuixotic

But it proves to all the rest of the good people that Mandela was a great guy; always measure the worth of a man by how the slimiest treat them. They're the first to call a guy like Mitt Romney a world class hero for robbing a country of its taxes and labor while he maximizes the cost to the society.

@mantisdragon91 So Boehner & Co. believe in "listening to the American people" … except when they're singing. Got it.

@mantisdragon91 Well, no wonder. They should have been singing Christmas songs. If they're going to be part of the War on Christmas, they have to take the consequences.

Although in the case of Eric Cantor ...

Never mind.

@fitty_three It's difficult enough to debate the furniture, but when the furniture apparently has different definitions for commonly used words and phrases it's nigh impossible.

It's moving seeing young and old, white and black, chanting his name outside the hospital. What a remarkable man.

@Sue_N @hivemaster I think they're no one actually DOING this.  The article said that they had acquired this from Emily post.  I guess they're outsourcing this job, too.

@Sue_N

I'm somewhat feeling like that, too.  If it was *just* McDonalds doing it, I could easily believe it's some disconnected HR person being an idiot but the fact that Wal Mart is also doing it makes me think it's organized.  We're talking public enemies #1 and 2 in the minimum wage debate.

@NP042 @fitty_three I just think he isn't very bright. Like a drowning man clinging to a piece of debris he stick to letter of his original statement and shows no critical thinking ability at all.

@forgottenlord @Sue_N So you mean McDonald's and Walmart two of the biggest for profit corporations in the world don't have secure websites that prohibit outside tampering? Damn you Obama!

No, you have found a news source that feeds upon your pre-existing worldview and compounds with lies, exaggerations, and intentional misrepresentations with the occasional sprinkling of just f-ing stupid to boot.
