Former President Bill Clinton speaks about health care at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Ark., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.

Bill Clinton said he didn’t know yet if his wife will run for president in 2016, and it’s too darn early for that race to start.

“I think, and she believes, that the country should spend at least another year working very hard on the problems we have,” he said in an interview on CNN Español Tuesday. “We have very serious challenges in America, and we have responsibilities around the world. I think it’s a big mistake, this constant four-year, peripatetic campaign is not good for America. We need to deal with the business we have before us.”

When asked if his comments about healthcare — Clinton said earlier this week that Obama should keep his word and allow people to keep their current health insurance plans — were meant to help his wife in a potential presidential bid, he said, “I was trying to be supportive of him,” Clinton said. “I don’t think you can find anybody in America who’s worked harder for his reelection or supported this bill or went out of his way to explain the bill to the American people more than I did.” Obama’s administration had not announced its plans to rectify the situation before Clinton made his comments.
