Liz Cheney speaks during a campaign appearance in Casper, Wyo., on July 17, 2013

Everyone must be looking forward to Thanksgiving at the Cheney house. Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s daughters have found themselves at the center of the culture wars again, when Mary Cheney and her wife chided Liz Cheney for opposing gay marriage during a nationally televised interview on Sunday.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Liz Cheney said she disagreed with her younger sister’s decision to marry her longtime partner Heather Poe in an interview on Fox News Sunday, leading Poe to publicly express her disappointment with her sister-in-law via Facebook.

“When Mary and I got married in 2012 — [Liz] didn’t hesitate to tell us how happy she was for us,” wrote Poe. “To have her now say she doesn’t support our right to marry is offensive to say the least.”

Mary Cheney shared her partner’s Facebook message, adding: “Liz — this isn’t just an issue on which we disagree — you’re just wrong — and on the wrong side of history.”

Late Sunday, Mary Cheney told The New York Times that it would be “impossible” for her and her sister to repair their relationship as long as Liz Cheney was against gay marriage:

“What amazes me is that she says she’s running to be a new generation of leader,” Mary Cheney said, citing her 47-year-old sister’s slogan in her campaign against Mr. Enzi, 69. “I’m not sure how sticking to the positions of the last 20 or 30 years is the best way to do that.”

Mary Cheney also told the Times that she “will not be seeing” her sister during a family gathering this Thanksgiving and suggested that she didn’t mind complicating Liz’s campaign for U.S. Senate in Wyoming. Liz Cheney’s stance on gay marriage has been a source of debate in Wyoming, where a super PAC ran an ad questioning her conservative views on the issue.

We spend too much time worrying about how others live their lives, except of course if there is an accident or a crime. Then we just watch and try posting to the internet.

Personally I could care less what another person wants to do as long as they don't interfere with what I would like to do.

Pretty simple.

To sum up: I love you, sis, but I'm running for office.

What does principle mean when there's an election to win?

Well i will keep on saying this that this gay thing is pure balooney. A relationship that is against nature is abnormal. The press has helped to propagate this madness and equated it to civil rights. First without being told who is the male or female in the marriage. Who is the husband or wife in the relationship. Can a kid or an adult discern from a distance the husband or wife in a gay/lesbian union? is that not promoting madness in the evil guise of  liberty. What will the union breed ? any prospect about children none . The natural make of a woman is the she is for a man and a man a woman. Their sex organs depict that too. Its an abomination of the highest order. Why dont we legalise polygamy, under age marriage and incest? We dont agree with all this yet the media launders the depraved minds of some and call it rights what rights are does. God is not mocked whatsoever a man sows the same shall he reap.  GOOD DAY.

It is shame on those who continue to use misunderstood bible phrases taken out of context which they don't read in the first place.  Then use it to create hate and fear. Then move on to further split the human race into classes of color creed and sexual choices just to gain more power and wealth so they can keep the human race divided and hurting one another.  These are the most evil people on the planet and when one is found to be so they should be locked away till they die...no windows no light just bare walls and complete darkness for that is where their love is centered, in the dark hearts they covet so much.  They should be made to hear the 10 commandments played nonstop till such time as they drop dead!

If God would have meant for there to be gays and lesbians, they'd have been born that way.

Christian Republicans have exploited hatred of gay people for political gain.

Only evil garbage would do that.

Therefore, Christian Republicans are evil garbage.

Any questions?

I'm puzzled as to why the Republicans believe the state has too much influence, and yet they want to decide who gets to marry?

Which has more freedom: a government with high taxes or a government where people decide their own personal lives?

At least be honest about your intentions. If you want to use Christianity as your guide, then fine, but don't wrap it up in "freedom".

The government should not be in the "marriage business" in the first place.

A legal document designating a civil union should be more than adequate, esp. for legal matters - nothing more, nothing less.

@nickojul1 What does it matter who the "husband or wife" are in a relationship. What possible impact could that have on whether two consenting adults, who happen to love each other, decide to make that commitment public?

To take your analogy further, why don't we enforce the illegality of divorce? Why aren't brothers required to marry their sister-in-laws if their brother dies? Eaten any shrimp lately? And I wouldn't threaten too much about polygamy either, it's in the bible along with the rest of these examples.

Your slippery slope argument that redefining marriage as being between two consenting adults will lead to polygamy, incest or under-age marriage makes as much sense as saying that because some states have raised the speed limit to 70mph, everyone will now drive 120.

If the ability to breed is the only purpose for marriage, then I'm assuming you're in favor of fertility tests for everyone applying to get married. I'm going to also assume that you're against adoption, because, you know, that's someone ELSE's children.

If your marriage is so threatened by someone you don't know marrying someone else you don't know, perhaps it's time to stop complaining about someone else's splinter and begin working on your own log.

@nickojul1 who cares what you think? you're a terrible human. there is not god and there are many animals who exhibit "gay" behavior.

@PlutoAnimus I'm fully in support of gay marriage.

That said, your third point only holds true if, in your first point, you made the verifiable claim that *all* Christian Republicans have done that. Which I think we know they haven't.

When you knowingly forge logic gaps like that to back your argument, it really doesn't do our side any favors. Let them specialize in that.

Oh @RasheedaLomonico, the urge to mock you is so great, but I think I'll go with just feeling sorry for you. You do realize that gays and lesbians a) marry b) have children c) were in heterosexual marriages before coming out and d) don't need someone as brutally mean and ignorant as yourself judging them. Too, I'd take a hard look at your own spelling and grammar before calling someone else a "dummy"

@RasheedaLomonico That's kind of funny, considering my husbands stepbrothers have a lesbian for a mother. She was married for 10 years before coming out and divorcing their father. So not necessarily.

But even if that were the case, it's still much better for everyone involved to be able to be open about it rather than come out years later.

peabody3000

@RasheedaLomonico what if there was no god watching over everything in the way you picture it? would you still have any real reason to discriminate and judge? and how does this repenting stuff change the genders of who you can love?

FillF.Fill

@RasheedaLomonico Not sure who you are aiming your comment at as all the principles involved in the story are women.  Even the article author is a woman.

@barneydidit @Hermione

Well, then there is the problem right there.  Why should a bunch of paid politicians be deciding who is technically "married".

If a person wants a ceremony, they can go to any church in this country.  Easy solution.

@peabody3000 @RasheedaLomonico Hey Rasheeda you know that I know I respect your views entirely but you should know that with todays technology we can actually inseminate a human being regardless of sexuality

and the same goes for fillf.fill as for peabody she obviously refers to the god of the bible yah way so if you really need to know um read it i guess

@Hermione You're ignoring such things as people  being able to file joint tax returns, get Social Security and VA spousal benefits, and estate tax marital exemptions.

@Openminded1, they're relatives with each other, not me. When I was much younger, all three of us used to go out on dates. My wife and ex are drinking buddies.

@Openminded1, no, I'd trust her with my life. I've known her since we were teenagers. She was matron of honor when I married her cousin and I was best man at her previous wedding. My MIL and ex-MIL are sisters.

@Openminded1, my support for the death penalty goes much deeper than just the things I listed and it's decades long. She had the best patterns in her class. Not one shot was outside the man's figure. She had tight patterns in the head, heart area and crotch (I think those were just mean/fun spirited).

@sacredh @Openminded1 happy to here we agree on the death penalty for scum bags. If her back hurts that much teach her to shoot lying down.

@Openminded1, my support for the death penalty includes child molesters, pedophiles, rape, murder and identity theft. My wife's back is in bad shape so she wanted a .38. It's the gun she used to get her concealed carry permit for this past fall.

@sacredh @Openminded1 Yes but your support for the death penalty is in reference to members of the tea party only, and Nixons  picture is for darts only

@Openminded1, but I support the death penalty and I have a picture of Nixon having in my living room. (him flashing the "V" sign).
