GOP Mega Donor Sheldon Adelson Wants To Nuke Iran

Sheldon Adelson says a strike should first target a desert area

The biggest donor to Republican Party political groups said Tuesday that the United States should drop a nuclear bomb on Iran to spur the country to end its own nuclear program.

Sheldon Anderson, the billionaire casino mogul, said on a panel at Yeshiva University in New York City that an initial blast, targeted to hit only desert area, would kill “maybe a couple of rattlesnakes, and scorpions, or whatever,” according to video posted on the foreign policy news website Mondoweiss.

“Then you say, ‘See! The next one is in the middle of Tehran. So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development.”

Adelson, a staunch Israel supporter, gave a whopping $92.8 million, along with his wife Miriam, to outside political groups during the 2012 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political spending. He was a major backer of a super PAC that kept Newt Gingrich’s campaign aflat.

An audience member at the panel, titled “Will Jews Exist,” filmed Adelson’s comments. Watch below, starting at about 5:20:

Israel should start carrying it's own water.

If any place needs nuclear weapons it is the US-Mex border.

is it just me or are a lot of these ppl nuts....this is simply a ploy to advance Israel and kill some "Mozlems" when given the chance. Do you honestly think NO ONE lives in that desert?  like many others have stated in the comments below, lets try the Negev dessert first and see how that works out. So so so silly. (btw I do NOT condone dropping an atomic weapon on any piece ofland, including the Negev).

If a country nukes another country or bombs a nuclear facility creating a nuclear catastrophe without first being attacked itself, then it is that attacking country that is at fault. If Israel thinks that God will support their decision to nuke or bomb Iran without first being attacked in kind, then Israel is insane and does not know God at all. And for those who would say that being bombed first is tantamount to suicide they do not realize the ability of the United States and Russia to correctly ascertain the party at fault, and to respond in kind. It would be suicide for Iran to bomb Israel. Iran knows this. Iran also knows that they are put in a tough spot when weaker nations such as Iraq and Afghanistan are run over by countries wanting to control other countries affairs, and Iran not wanting to go down the same road.

Israel wants dominion over the Middle East. Their leaders have dreams of a greater Israel that takes still more land from still more families, sending them packing and even worse. They think that God supports this but Jesus Christ told them that he was before Abraham and that Moses did not bring the true bread of heaven in the wilderness, and yet they didn't understand or didn't want to understand. They preferred the high seats in the temple and the long robes and the greetings in the market; power and money, while love and truth be damned.

When Jesus said to love thy neighbor as thyself, the Jewish lawyer asked "who is my neighbor". And Jesus responded with the Parable of the Samaritan, whom the Jews hated, and told how the Samaritan who did good did what pleased God, while the Jewish priest and the Levite walked by the person in need without helping them.

Everyone the world over is your neighbor, men and women, those of all religions and those of no religion at all, all races and nationalities, heterosexuals and homosexuals, if you war with these groups you war with those who have been around since the beginning of time and will be around since the end of time. If you can't make peace with them and judge righteous judgment and stop judging on the appearance then you don't know God at all. Jesus made peace with them all and millions upon millions have distorted the truth of this. He is going to say that he never knew that part of them, that would condemn good people without cause, for God judges on words and actions, not on the appearance. Works matter, for they are all we have. And when one understands that works matter they will be in the presence of God when good works are done.

Iran's nuclear plans are about to come to fruition, and Israel will do something about it-in partnership with its former nemesis Saudi Arabia. And by the way, the U.S. will be dragged into it, kicking and screaming.

Real Life? Perhaps-judge for yourself in a prescient new thriller offered by Amazon Kindle - The Bahrain Protocol

Scarier part is the audience applauding and advocating the terrorism on Iran. And we dare not say Jewsih terrorism?

Why is there NO coverage in US media? If it was a Muslim advocating nuking even smaller Kiryat Shmona in Israel, US media would be up in arms in no time.

US sure is a racist, bigoted, unjust country.

instead of focusing on Adelson's word, focus on the 100's of participants clapping after his statement. that is worrisome.

Yet another reason to be thankful that Mitt is focusing his efforts on building his car elevator rather than residing in the White House as Commander in Chief, charged with shaping our nation's foreign policy strategies.

Maybe we ought to test his theory by dropping one in the Nevada desert?  The deserts around the world aren't  "empty".  There are nomads who live quiet lives away from everything else in Iran as well as Yemen and Saudi Arabia and Egypt (and Nevada).  But someone who would inflict Newt Gingrich on the American people doesn't have much regard for life.

This is a foretaste of the kinds of foreign adventures that billionaires are lining up to push on the GOP candidates that they bankroll.  We got GWB and his neoconservative bankrollers gave us a criminal war in Iraq.  Now, they're pushing for another war in Iran, just as they were pushing for yet another in Syria earlier this year.

Can't you see it?  Just wait: buy your own candidate and have him/her do whatever you order them to do.

Welcome to the Republican version of the future: your money spent to purchase a candidate buys a whole superpower's worth of military adventures.

Does anyone still doubt that if Romney had won we would be at war with Iran as we speak.

We had a president who invaded a weak Arab country (weaker than when his Dad took back Kuwait) to show Iran, North Korea and Syria that we were serious about nuclear weapons (even though Saddam was no where near a nuclear weapon).

The message to the Arab countries was clear to me - you develop a nuclear weapon or we will invade you while you're weak.   Would Bush have dropped a nuke?   He didn't hesitate to invade Iraq (possible just to "kick some ass") and we didn't stop him.

Not only did we not stop him, there were no consequences to what he did, even as his VP outed a CIA agent for her husband telling the truth on WMD's  (which Bush had the gall to joke about not finding).

Money talks.   Money buys power and money corrupts.   Who Cruz drop a nuke?   His dad's church would probably be for it.  How much is Sheldon going to shell out to him.

He never said anything about Nuking Iran, just a threat of nuking them, , but of course all the Propagandists who love to blame the Israelis and the Jews for everything will now say he wants the US to nuke Iran

If nuclear weapons are used sparingly, they can be an effective foreign policy tool. Wholesale bombing of cities should be avoided if possible, but there's nothing wrong with using one or two to make a point

I like that phrase, "...to keep Newt Gingrich's campaign aflat." I hope it wasn't just a typo, because it describes the subject perfectly.

"Adelson, a staunch Israel supporter, gave a whopping $92.8 million, along with his wife Miriam, to outside political groups during the 2012 election cycle,"

Oh my God. What did they say the day he donated his wife?

It would never occur to me to structure a sentence that badly.

Maybe put himself and the entire right wing neo conservative nuts in that target zone. This is the kind of advice George Bush received to March into Iraq. Brilliant!

@ARTRaveler Our deserts are largely uninhabited.  That's why we have dropped hundreds of nukes there in the past.

@mantisdragon91 Doubtful with Romney.  If McCain had been elected in '08 it would have been much more likely.

@fraggle_00 why does this upset you, don't all you people cry about that the US Military is used for Israels purpose? So now Adelson is coming out and saying he should have served in the Israeli Military and he wants his son to serve in them..

SamirMalik5152

@K111 So then don't complain when a silly Imam in, let's say, small viallge in Timbuktu says "death to Israel:. Than don't make a big thing about Islamic terrorism. Jews are the TERRORIST, no less. Look at the audience applauding. They are all equally into advocating terrorism

Mello

@K111 It was more than a threat.  And didn't we vilify Iran for making the same type of threat toward Israel.  And unlike Iran, we have the real capability of doing it.

@K111Here's what he said:

"You pick up your cell phone, even at traveling rates, you pick up your cell phone, what do they call them, roaming charges, you pick up your cell phone and you call somewhere in Nebraska and you say, OK, let it go. So there's an atomic weapon that goes over, ballistic missiles, in the middle of the desert, that doesn't hurt a soul, maybe a couple of rattle snakes, and scorpions, or whatever, and then you say, see, the next one's in the middle of Teheran."

So of course he's talking about nuking Iran.  What desert do you think he's talking a bout?

kiumars.irani
kiumars.irani

@K111 @ 5:37 he says: you pick up the phone and tell someone in Arbraska and you say let it go; so there is an atomic weapon goves over a ballistic missile in the middle of the desert that doesn’t hurt a soul. What this guy does not understand is that desert is flat and radiation will move quickly to Iranian cities and Turkey, Eastern Europe and Russia in a matter of hours. Then someone in Russia has to say “OK, let it go to the USA”!

@K111 We don't know if McCain or Romney had won if they would have bombed Iran, but odds are the pressure would have been great for them to do so.   (Bomb, bomb Iran wasn't just a joke to McCain).    Until religion doesn't control the Republican party, everyone should be leery of a Republican president.   Evangelicals want to fulfill biblical prophecy as much as some Jews want to be hard liners.

ARTRaveler

@Mello @ARTRaveler I guess "largely" is okay unless you are one of those that are there.  That's why they fence in U.S. government reservations and patrol them with the military.  But deserts in the Middle East are full of nomadic tribes who have lived and crossed those areas for year, even before we started using "AD" after dates. If  he wants to test one, use the U S House office buildings.  There we know there would be no major loss there.
