Sen. John McCain announced Tuesday he is considering running for a sixth term in the Senate in 2016.

The Arizona senator and one-time presidential hopeful made his announcement on KFYI-AM, a Phoenix radio station, while responding to a caller angry about his vote to avert defaulting on the national debt and re-open the federal government.

“I would match my voting record against anyone’s,” McCain said, “and I’m seriously thinking about maybe giving another opportunity for you to vote for or against me a few years from now. I’m seriously giving that a lot of thought. I’m certainly getting a lot of encouragement from our business community.” McCain survived a primary challenge in 2010 and went on to win a fifth term in the Senate.

The radio show host asked if “some wild-eyed journalist” who heard the program would be wrong to report that he was considering running for a sixth term. McCain would be 80 years old while running for office in 2016.

“That would not be wrong,” McCain said.

McCain might be running again to keep the seat out of the Tea Party's hands.

I've heard that he's also seriously considering appearing on Meet The Press every Sunday until the end of time.

St John "announced" that he is "considering" a run in 3 years?
