Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton endorsed family friend and Democrat Terry McAuliffe Saturday in Virginia’s gubernatorial race, whose general election takes place Nov. 5, reports CBS News.

McAuliffe, who co-chaired Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign and was a key fundraiser for her husband, former President Bill Clinton, introduced Clinton to a crowd in Falls Church, Va., rather than the other way around, a move that underscored Clinton’s celebrity.

“The whole country is watching to see if the rights of women and girls will be respected, especially over our own bodies and health care,” Clinton said at the event held by the group Women for Terry McAuliffe.

Bill Clinton will start a three-day campaign swing with McAuliffe through the state next Sunday, according to Politico. Recent polls show McAuliffe comfortably leading his Republican opponent, Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli.
