Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka says that if he had run for Illinois Senate in 2004, he would have beaten Barack Obama, and Obama never would have become president, USA Today reports.

“Biggest mistake I’ve ever made,” Ditka said during a pubic appearance in North Dakota. “Not that I would have won, but I probably would have and he wouldn’t be in the White House.”

Ditka, who is now an ESPN football commentator, publicly contemplated running as a Republican candidate in 2004 but ultimately decided against it.

One Obama ally scoffed at Ditka’s after-the-fact posturing.

“Mike Ditka only pretended to run for Senate so he could publicize his restaurant,” former presidential aide Tommy Vietor wrote on Twitter. “And Obama would’ve smoked him.”

Ditka: With a good deal of makeup and a decent wig, I could have had Bo Derek's part in "10".

"Ditka Takes Credit for Obama Becoming President"

Isn't it sad how repeated hits to the head scrambles the brains of former football players?

Poor Mjkey obviously isn't getting enough attention. Won't some please give Mike a hug.

Unfortunately, this story on Ditka doesn't go deep enough in explaining WHY the GOP was scrambling for a candidate to run against Obama. The correct answer is nerd-comedy gold.

Gee, sounds like Ditka is taking his talking points from Donald 'Birther" Trump.......both aren't exactly smart.

@jsfox, pointing and laughing seems more appropriate.

Ok.  I plead guilty to political nerdism.

I still remember Ryan whining that his privacy wasn't being respected by the press -- after he had assigned people to follow Obama around 24/7 with video cameras (sometimes only several feet away and practically shoving cameras in his face).

He was trying to provoke an angry black man video moment for his campaign -- which he never got.  Obama's a cool customer.  It's the first time I heard of Obama.

@jareyes.2 Yeah, a guy played and coached in the NFL for decades obviously hates being around successful black people.  Is there ANY situation where you won't pull the race card on someone who doesn't like Obama?  Seriously, grow up.

With the Bears teams Ditka coached they should have won more than one Super Bowl. Why the idol worship in Chicago over Da Coach is mystfying.  It usually comes from guys with double digit IQs who stuff themselves with beer and brats. He is the worst kind of Republican - a guy who came from a blue collar background who forgot where he came from. He's crud.
