Country Moves Closer to Government Shutdown With Senate Vote

Storm clouds hang over Capitol Hill on Sept. 27, 2013.

The U.S. government Friday moved one step closer to a possible shutdown, with the Senate rejecting a House-passed bill to continue funding the government in favor of a simpler alternative that did not interfere with ObamaCare.

The Senate sent to the House a “clean” continuing resolution that funds the government at current spending levels, $986 billion a year, through Nov. 15. The  vote, 54 to 44, sends back a bill to the House that Speaker John Boehner has already said he will not accept. If the House and Senate do not reach agreement by Monday, parts of the federal government deemed “non-essential” will cease operation at midnight.

Before the vote, several senators said they have no idea what the House will now do. If it sends back a contentious rebuttal including, for example, a one-year delay of Obamacare’s individual mandate, the Senate and House will be hard pressed to avert the October 1 funding deadline. Some Democratic senators said they would not accept anything but their proposal’s approval from the House.

“I really do believe there is not much room for maneuvering on our side. The way that they’re prepared to close government over moving their agenda rather than regular procedures is something we can’t allow to be successful,” said Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.). “There would be no end. Today it’s the Affordable Care Act, tomorrow it will be environmental rules.”

“If it has anything in it that would reward this type of behavior, It’s not going to have my vote,” said Sen. Carl Levin (D-Michigan).

Two weeks ago, Republican House leaders tried to pass a resolution that would have allowed the Senate to reject the amendment defunding Obamacare without the risk of a government shutdown. That proposal led to a backlash from the Republican rank-and-file, who wanted the Senate to be on the record for funding the health care program, large parts of which go into effect in the coming months.

Now some House Republicans are essentially asking for a shutdown, including Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Alabama), who said that he would vote no to his leadership’s plan put forth behind closed doors Thursday in part because it doesn’t include a balanced budget amendment.

“America survived the last 17 government shutdowns,” said Brooks. “The disruptions from a shutdown, although they are things we should avoid, they are short-term. And once their over with, things go back to normal. If you’re a federal employee, typically speaking, you still get paid in full, and you haven’t had to work. And it doesn’t count against your vacation days.”

60% oppose Obamacare. But the tea-jadists either don't realize or don't care that a large chunk of that 60% oppose it because they are are true blue democrats who want a single-payer system, and don't think the ACA goes far enough.

Not even 30% support this terrorist shutdown of the US government.

Even still, 60% support Roe v. Wade. Can anyone imagine the GOP response if the Dems were to hold the USA hostage until the GOP undid all of the anti-abortion legislation they had pushed through over vociferous Dem objection?

Hypocrites and liars.

They want to shut the government down then stop their pay.  House, Senate, and President.   Stop their pay as well.  I feel like I am watching either a chess match at a stale mate or a ping pong match between the house and senate.

The government shutting down is serious, but nowhere as serious as the issue of White genocide. This genocide is being carried out by force integrating every White country, community, and institution on the earth with non-Whites. This forced diversity is accompanied by an information campaign that frames White people as inherently defective and lacking positive human qualities. This campaign of White guilt is intended to weaken the resolve of Whites as they face genocide by forced assimilation. Non-White people are free to have spaces and institutions to pursue their own cultures and destinies. Whites are denied this right.This is genocide. This is much more serious than a government shutdown.

The shutdown of the government could have a disastrous effect on the American economy. This is a serious matter. But nothing in more serious, at this time in history, than the on-going program of genocide being carried out against White people.  This genocide is not being carried out with guns, gas, or starvation.  Instead, it's being carried out using forced diversity (of non-Whites) into every White country, community, and institution on the earth. Africans, Arabs, Jews, Asians, etc are all free to have spaces and institutions of their own to follow their own destinies. Only Whites are denied this right. This will lead to the end of White people on earth. So called "anti-racism" is really just a code word for anti-White.

The infantile sophomoric maneuvers to harm the nation 's economy must be stopped. It's time the American people must be united regardless of our political leaning...

The President must stand firm against these clowns knowingly that he is correct in his non-negotiating stance against the terrorists. We must not give them an ounce of satisfaction nor yield to their childish ransom.

Let's get our Seal teams ready to take them out with extreme prejudice.

The ironic thing is that the Republicans see themselves as the real patriots, but I don't see them as patriots at all.  Their allegiance is entirely to the rich and to big business, not to the country as a whole.

The GOP mantra:  Go along with Obama & the Dems and Armageddon will happen, the sky will fall.  5 yrs after the Bush disaster and Armageddon hasn't happened and won't happen except for the GOP mucking around with the debt ceiling.  Slowly but surely fed actions & the national debt can be unwound, but that won't satisfy GOP political ends.  So the GOP will force Armageddon on the nation & try to blame it on the Dems.  That's how much respect they have for the public; they think they can fool them all the time.  Crank up the Fox Propaganda Machine, Rupert.  Better yet, why not just close it down.

The GOP has become a collection of rural, regional, ethnic, foreign lobbies etc.  Each of these factions needs to be solaced or the whole ball of wax starts to melt to nothing.

There are no decisions made based on National interest, common sense, or an obligation to preserving the great American way of life as we knew it.

@WalterWhite1  I am Caucasian and I feel that I have every right as well as the Hispanics, Asians, African Americans and such.  It is not our race that controls our destinies, it is ourselves as a human being that controls our destiny.  If you go into the world with a negative attitude as such as you are showing you are only going to see the negative.  Seek the positive in the world.  Sir, I know you are entitled to your opinion, and I respect that.  I hope you see one day the influence of negativity you are showing to those who think of you as role models.

Why don't you declare your independence from President Blackenstein?  You can fight the good fight by refusing to be forced to carry that awful Obamacare health insurance that he's trying to force on you.  In fact, you can start a healthcare rebellion with all your buddies who agree with you!  Refuse healthcare!  Live free and uninsured!

And let natural selection take its course.

@CalebMurdock   Amen CalebMurdock, amen.  As a DoD federal worker, I was forced to lose 6 days pay this past summer and am now being used as a pawn for the looming government shutdown.  There's absolutely no promise to backpay us.  I've worked long and hard in my federal career and do not warrant this type of monetary punishment by our legislature for their infantile refusal to reach a compromise.  And why they're allowed to force me into leave without pay while still receiving their own is criminal.  I wish the peoples of this country would raise their voices to stop these thieves for good.

@allthingsinanameWell, to be fair:

"Now some House Republicans are essentially asking for a shutdown..."

What's left out is the simple fact that everything is up to John Boehner's willingness to bring a clean CR up for a vote and accept the Democrats' willingness to govern the country responsibly.

@HeatherDupuis @WalterWhite1

If you see opposing the genocide of my race as "negative" it's because you've been socialized to think this way through anti-White propaganda. What if I said that all Jewish or African countries, communities, and institutions were obligated to accept forced diversity with people unlike themselves until there were no more Jewish or African peoples? What if I created an information campaign that pushed self hatred for Jews and Africans? Something tells me you wouldn't be lecturing Jews or Africans on "negativity" when they opposed this. I believe the people of Shakespeare, Mozart, DaVinci, Tesla,  Dostoevsky, Jefferson, etc have the right to our own spaces and institutions to pursue our own cultures and destinies. You would be under no obligation to join us. So called "anti-racism" is really just a code word for anti-White.

WalterWhite1

I voted for Obama. But when it comes to the issue of White genocide. They're all the same. They all demand that White countries, communities, and institutions be forced blended out of existence in the name if "diversity," tolerance" and "multiculturalism." But if someone demanded that Africans or Jews be blended out of existence, there would be outrage. They claim they are "anti-racist," but what they are is anti-White. Anti-Racist is a code word for anti-White.

@fitty_three @newsy97 You're a joke! Obama is gone in another 2 plus years, no way around that. This has never been about Obama, it is about special interests not willing to lose their share off the gravy train. (not the welfare you probably spew about, I mean corporate welfare)

So there is little Obama can do between now and the next election. If you want to tear this Nation down for whatever your provincial interest, don't do it in Obama's name.

1) Bernanke printing money isn't part of this story

2) You support the GOP, but still haven't explained how that gels with wasting $40 million dollars trying to repeal a law of the land while whining about how much the gov't spends.

3) The GOP is holding the gov't hostage to get what it wants, because it couldn't win an election. And the reason that it couldn't win an election, Rusty, is because nut jobs like you, are few and far between, fortunately.

@Sue_N ,

Golden Coins

2 pounds of carrots sliced and cooked in water until almost done.

Drain. Add 1 green pepper sliced into thin strips and 1 medium onion sliced into thin strips. Set aside in a covered bowl.

In a separate pan add together:

1 can of Tomato soup

1 tsp. Worcesteshire sauce

1 tsp prepared mustard

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup vinegar

3/4 cup vegetable oil

1/2 tsp salt

Heat to a boil and pour over carrots, green pepper and onion.

Refrigerate overnite or serve hot. Makes two quarts.

People say that there’s this RACISM problem. People say that this RACISM problem will be solved when the developing world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.

The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve the RACISM problem by bringing in millions of non-Asian people and “assimilating” with them.

People say that the final solution to the RACISM problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries (along with EVERY white community and white institution) to “assimilate” with all those non-whites.

What if I said there was this RACISM problem and this RACISM problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACISM problem; I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?

And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the White race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.

They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white.

Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

There is no white genocide - and why is tolerance and multiculturalism so bad?

Even if your point about asking Jews or Africans (forgetting of course that we enslaved both those people as Caucasians - Rome with the Jews, and you know that whole German debacle, and do we even need to talk about the slave trade?) dismisses how the country, indeed every country around the world now, is mixed.

Except places like deep Africa, where no white person seems to want to live. You aren't advocating making North America a place where non-whites want to live, are you?

The point of integration (As i see it, anyway) is simply recognizing reality. Like it or not, white population seems to be declining (we aren't having as many babies). Are you going to be prejudiced against another race, because yours isn't popping out babies? That's kind of ridiculous.

Also, i kind of dismissed the fact that other cultures had been enslaved, and generally misused by Caucasians - but i shouldn't. The fact is we all did that, and by advocating discrimination, it's simply a continuation of that same thing, albeit nonviolently.

More or less non-violently, anway.

You said you voted for Obama - but the fact that he got re-elected after the GOP tried to disenfranchise minority voters is lucky (well not lucky, in that, despite the GOP's best efforts, Obama STILL had the numbers to get elected), because the GOP (i.e. old white guys) are intimidated by minorities and are actively trying to keep them down, because they also believe that there is a white genocide going on.

WalterWhite1
WalterWhite1

@fitty_three @La_Randy

The GOP is just as guilty of White genocide as the Democrats. So like you I hope they end up destroyed as well. Like the democrats, the GOP pushes the idea of:

Africa for Africans. Asia for Asians. White countries for everyone.
