Iran's President Hassan Rouhani speaks at his first press conference since taking office, at the presidency compound in Tehran, on Aug. 6, 2013

Despite more than a week of speculation and Administration hints, President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will not be meeting at the U.N. General Assembly today, according to senior Administration officials.

The officials said the White House offered to have “an encounter” with Rouhani on the margins of this week’s events in New York City, but the Iranian government informed them today that it is “too complicated for Iranians to do at this point.”

The officials added that they had discussed a meeting with their Iranian counterparts for days. “We have said publicly, and we also said privately to the Iranians, that we’re open to having discussions on the margins of UNGA — informal discussions, not a bilateral meeting. That proved to be too complicated for the Iranians to do at this point,” a senior Administration official said.

“The Iranians have an internal dynamic that they have to manage, and the relationship with the United States is clearly quite different than the relationship that Iran has with other Western nations,” the official said.

Earlier Tuesday in Obama’s remarks to the General Assembly, the President called Rouhani’s election this summer “encouraging,” saying he has directed Secretary of State John Kerry to pursue a diplomatic solution to Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons.

@jsfox @Openminded1 You see, mr jsfox, your trouble is that you are trying to have a discourse with someone that is the model of perfection. This gentleman is so conceited that he thinks he represents the personification of truth. If you have seen his history on other news, the moment he put an uniform, the he turned himself into the only human being to spout the truth and he even has the audacity of insulting when someone contradict his truth. Not even the president of the USA escapes his darts of vengeance. You see, mr jsfox, the paradigm of respect for this gentleman is the ex pre.mr Bush, You see, mr jsfox, this president, I assure you, is absolutely respected in the world, and I dare say, that if you ask in this moment in Iraq to anybody if they respect mr Bush, I assure you that so many shoes would start to fly that they could fill a warehouse.

Some Americans, uuf. So combative, so brave, they have never eaten the dust of defeat. One of them screams here, " This president is a joke". You know why?  Because he doesn't bomb and invade Iran, because he didn't bomb and invade Syria.  There is something very simple in the world: Diplomacy through the UN and diplomacy through direct talks. The latter is guided by the goodwill of the participants and there is no obligation for both parts. Anyone of the parts can withdraw. So what? Is there any disrespect?  There could be many reasons. But no, this fighter that writes here feels himself ashamed because the other part didn't bow to the president of the USA. That's a capital sin for this nationalistic gentleman. Conclusion: Obama is a joke. The reality mr brave American is that the world is changing. The exceptionalism is about to crush one way or the other. Wake up, you are still the most powerful force in the world, but that has to be accompanied by a most powerful economy in the world. This second part is being eroded from inside. From the greed of the 1%.

Don't get mad at me, just be reasonable and wakey, wakey.

While Obama was no doubt offended by the Iranian pull out, he will continue to further American relations with the Iranians by threatening a massive military attack.  Additional naval and air force assets are already being dispatched to the area.  Obama has pledged that there will be no American boots on the ground but failed to mention the possibility of the US employing mercenary forces made up of multinationals.

Ban everything going in and going out of Iran! put in more sanctions, threaten to bomb them every week, surround your naval, army and airforce troops all around Iran, and then offer to meet? What do you expect? and Obama did this on purpose! :s

What else is new? It's not like the previous leader did the same; stretch out his hand then pull it back with a grin and a 'gotcha!'

I don't know if it's just the way these guys operate but it's always procedural games and a bunch of lip service.

@MrObvious Bs it is a intended slap in the face to Obama, because they know he is weak. They wanted him to look like a non-important head of state. they appear to have succeed .

@jsfox @Openminded1 I do not have to sit down with anyone to see and read between the lines. Your problem is you are so stupid you believe everything your idiot party dishes out. that or you are black and think the black man can do no wrong. And you will do and say what ever to make Obama look good.  so typical of party liners. and no I am not a member of any party and do not vote along any party lines i am not a follower and a kiss ass. You must really kiss your bosses ass too.

@RamonRoman @jsfox @Openminded1 Oh Ramon you soft little liberal you really need to do some real research , Obama is a joke Syria ,Russia and now Iran and so many other country laugh at the racist muslim in the Oval Office. you assume i liked Bush once again you are wrong. But I will say this Bush was hated by the muslim world but he did not take any crap from them.  Iraq would not like him dummy he invaded them. who cares we where talking about the con man in the house now. as far as respecting the current President that is hard for me to do knowing what I know. That does not mean I do not respect the office of the President. One really has nothing to do with the other. I guess you never spent anytime in Military service. You still salute the officer that out ranks you, that does not mean you respect that officer he maybe an ass hole, you respect the uniform and rank dummy. Everyone in my book has a right to an opinion Ramon, but opinions are like ass holes everyone has one, but some are better then others. And as far as perfection goes , far from it but at least I am a realist not a bleeding heart liberal living in fantasy land.

@jsfox @Openminded1 Opportunity to remain silent, words I used on many dirt bag suspects for over 30 years. I do not know what advantage you have to talk to folks in foreign affairs and or policy, you could be a janitor somewhere on capital hill or at the UN I do not know or care plus talk is cheap. What makes those foreign affairs and alleged policy people correct because you agree with them and they are democrats? And I have not lost any argument with a pansy ass wipe dummy in my life. You are way out of your league moron.

@Openminded1 @jsfoxYou had an opportunity here to remain silent and only be thought a fool, but nope you decided to pound away at your keyboard and remove all doubt.

And just so you are clear it is not my party that I believe or beltway pundits. I have the advantage of being able to talk to folks who work both in foreign affairs and policy daily.

And btw if you have to resort to calling me stupid you have already lost the argument.
