With Videotaped Blowup, The Anthony Weiner Campaign Is Complete

Update at 5:46 p.m.

As a rule, it’s bad form for a political reporter to predict the outcome of political election. But it’s safe to say that Anthony Weiner is no longer the front runner in the New York Mayor’s race, which he once led. The most recent Quinnipiac poll put him at 7%, in fourth place, behind Bill de Blasio, at 43%.

Weiner is, however, still the star of his own reality show, an epic drama of masochism, might and repeated ritual self-embarrassment. And so it is worth noting that his journey may have reached its apex today, when he picked a fight with a heckling voter at a bakery. Suffice it to say, hecklers are nothing new to press-the-flesh retail politicking, and there are only two proper ways of dealing with them: Ignore or politely dismiss.

But then the Weiner campaign no longer looks much like a campaign. It is more like a life journey, done as theater for the public. And Weiner’s life journey needs have clearly separated from his political ones. And so this is the spectacle that results.

Update at 5:46 p.m.
Weiner’s camp released a full video of the altercation. The man who initiated the conflict told Weiner, “You’re a real scumbag, Anthony. Married to an Arab.”

I love to watch 2 Jews destroying each other.  That is why 6 million died in the holocaust.

The man(?) is  a pig and should not even be allowed to run for office. He is a copy of Clinton who also had no moral values.

The idea that we cannot judge him is as ignorant as he is, if you run for office the voters have the right to judge any candidate by their actions as well as their morality.

America has become  a joke around the world from our politicians, including the moron who is in the White house now.

Waste of time but I found Weiner's argument 'you don't have the right to judge me only the rabbi does' to be perplexing. Does he imagine we live under a Jewish Theocracy? The right to vote gives all Americans the right to judge our politicians. The right to free speech allows Americans to state their opinions on anything. Is it part of Judiasm to believe observant Jews are not allowed to have these same rights? They are supposed to be beholden to a rabbi for their opinions?

What happen to the concept of shame with this man.  It's not "Chutzpa", testicular fortitude or courageous that drives this man!  The is a person who has such a high estimation of himself that he doesn't care if the world is laughing at him.

Anthony Weiner is an icon for the rapidly declining society we now live in.  Moreover, we all have a share in this fiasco. First, the voters who supported his mayoral race are liable for making a mockery out of the electoral pprocess by ensuring that he was placed on the ballot.  Those citizens who did not help in getting him on the ballot are just as culpable as those who did, because they allowed this clown to remain in the race by not demanding that he quit the race.  The bakery blow up clearly illustrates that Weiner thinks  he is above the purview of the voters by chastising the voter who challenged him(in an inappropriote way by attacking for his marital status).  Weiner was clearly hamming( pardon the expression) it up for the rolling video of his encounter.  It does also illustrate to us the deep distain Weiner has for the public by having the extreme Chutzpa to deny the voters a right to judge his behavior under the prism of good conduct and propriety.  Pssst......... newsflash Weiner, the public has every right to judge you and your lack of decency.  Drop out now, enough already!!!!

Here is my take on badly behaving politicians – DO NOT BE SURPRISED WHEN THEY BEHAVE BADLY AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. You’re been warned. Did you really think things will change when you continue to support them? Really?

I am aware people make mistakes – we’re human. But come on, to stand behind someone when they demonstrate they will make bad decisions over and over. I believe (yes, I’m stating my opinion), if you learn from your mistakes and move positively forward, you should give them another chance – in most cases. And another point, do you ever look at the politician and say ‘Is this the best we can get – there isn’t one other person out there with a little better judgment and character’?

But then I remember, character does not matter anymore. No one can judge anyone.

It all comes down to how a person will vote and you put up with everything else. So don’t be surprised when he/she behaves badly because they know you will still vote for them.  Sad.

Wasn't going to vote for Anthony but to see him stand up for himself and his wife after those comments that they guy threw at him it is strongly changing my opinion of Anthony.

”You’re a real scumbag, Anthony. Married to an Arab.”

That's the kind of macho racism and sexism that Michael Scherer accepts from the modern Republican Party.

That's about the only thing that Anthony Weiner doesn't deserve thrown in his face.

The guy who called him out shouldve said: "You have presented yourself to the people of NYC as a Candidate for Mayor. As a citizen of NYC, I have a right to Judge you as a candidate for Mayor and your behavior shows the worst Judgement and character possible which disqualifies you as a political candidate for Mayor. You have disrespected you wife, the women you exposed yourself to and you disrespect NYC to dare claim a person with you character and a man obsessed with his own genitals and exposing them to others, is fit to be Mayor of NYC."

Anthony Weiner is a disgrace to his political party.  The voter was right to call him out and have the guts to do so in front of others.  He called Weiner for everything he is, including selfish.  He needs to get out of the public eye and on to a therapist's couch instead.  He is disrespectful to women with his sexting scandal while disrespecting his wife.  He could use a course in ethics.  The cross-dressing fiasco was bad enough.  To even be stupid enough to run for NYC mayor in spite of that just shows he has no conscience.

Weiner is running for Mayor because no employer in their right mind is going to hire this loser.  He hasn't worked a day since he had to leave office in disgrace.  Of course his wife is going to stand by him.  She's probably tired of supporting his useless a**.

Weiner does have some very, very serious psychological issues. I think the bakery dude was correct. In addition to suffering from sexual perversions, a lack of volitional control and an inability to learn from his mistakes..he's also arrogant. A bizarre and unsettling combination.

Seriously Wiener, your time was done 15 minutes ago. Now you're simply making sure your entire family plus future spawns have to do the walk of shame in public.

The discriminatory ethnic remark was not made by the person who engaged in the back-and-forth with Weiner.  The man who got into it with Weiner actually castigated Weiner for disrespecting his wife with his behavior.  Weiner did not come out well in this argument; the guy wiped the floor with him just by remaining calm and refusing to let Weiner get away with that, "it's my own business" nonsense.  The fascinating thing about the longer video that Weiner posted is that even before the conflict, he comes off as charmless to say the least---more like,  nasty and unlikeable.

Weiner was just defending himself. It's the heckler that was out of line, especially with his quasi-racist "married to an Arab" comment. The implications are obvious and reprehensible. Ironic as well, considering the man's own likely considerable Semitic ancestry.

@jalopez107 You deserve someone like him to run the Libtard Capital of the Country, just as yinz accepted foul-mouthed Hillary the lying anti-Semite with open arms, and yinz certainly deserve Mayor Blooming Idiot who has to take it upon himself to not only suggest that drinking 10 teaspoons of sugar in one sitting isn't a good idea but then outlaws it. Anyone who would put up with handing over over 55% of your paycheck to Libtard politicians deserves what they get. And guess what, yer taxes ain't going down in the near future, you'lll simply get an allowance and the various Government entities will simply take all of it. Can't be done? Go look at the tax tables for the birthplace of libtardism, that would be the UK, the tax rates for rebuilding after WW II stood at 99.75%.Then Brits got smart and simply started leaving the Country, just as New Yorkers have recently taken $80 billion in wealth and left the state. Big deal you say? How do you think all that money leaving is going to be recouped by people like Cuomo and Blooming Idiot? 'ats right Bubba, they'll have to raise the taxes on the rest of yinz, which will cause more people to exodus, and that will mean higher taxes on the remaining people/ Got that? Because school districts have their own little fiefdom, just as parking authorities, parks and recreations and on and on, all have their own little kingdoms with their own little hierarchy and all their union rules that they have to follow an not even ONE of those entities is EV-ah going to suggest lowering real estate taxes or state income taxes. All of them have built in COLAs so they have to go up. Good luck with Screaming weiner, if he doesn't get elected as Mayor then he'll jam his foot in someone's door and get a job pushing papers, or as a loud councilman somewhere because, how the heck would he survive at a real job when his only skills are being a screaming, annoying shish ke bab.

@bgg1175

Everyone gets an opportunity to do that with their vote. You don't like the guy? Don't vote for him. No need to confront Weiner on the street. What's worse, the guy shows his extreme ignorance by accusing Weiner of being married to an Arab when he's not. But bigots usually have a hard time with pesky things like "facts". Arab? Persian? Sikh? All the same thing, right?

Do I think he's putting his wife through absolute hell? My guess would be "yes", but note that that's only a guess. That's between him and his wife. She's still with him, so obviously it's something she's ok with. Again, I couldn't care less about his personal life and quite frankly, technically the only question that should matter is whether or not the candidate can do the job. Let's not be naive; we can create a LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG list of politicians who cheated on their spouse.

lukeduke

@CarrieFischer

He also called him a scumbag for being married to "an arab" (even though he's not). Do you think that's acceptable as well?

Look, I'm all for holding politicians to a higher standard. But you do that with your vote. Simply don't vote for the guy. I think we fool ourselves by saying, "This person is soo horrible" when the reality is most of these guys have huge skeletons in their closet.

I agree. I think the guy is psycho for running for mayor with all of his baggage. But that's between him and his wife. As a voter, just shake your head, don't vote for him and move on. I'm not, however, going to judge anyone. This guy is supposed to be Jewish. Doesn't his religion tell him not to judge? Looks like that's what he's doing here. Seems like he's sinning and is no better than Weiner.

@GalaxyGearForum i think huma actually enjoys this as much as weiner does. she deserves no sympathy at this point, unfortunately.

@elizabethbennett the men in the deli were all joining in on the mob to demean Weiner for being married to her.  This guy is just the one stupid enough to keep it up after Weiner takes the clue that dirty Arab-lovers are unwelcome in that Jewish deli and leaves the store

Neither wiped anyone with anything.  All those guys including Weiner are a disgrace to Jews, although the guys in the deli manifest an unfortunately virulent strain of bigotry and superiority not uncommon among a segment of Jews and Israelis

EdLevi
EdLevi

@LeeA194072it's not quasi-racist it's full blown bigoted Islamophobic remark.  It's the same as calling someone a "Jew-lover" circa 1930s Germany or a "nigg3r-lover"  circa Alabama 1930.

And with most racism it's semantically ignorant.  Huma Adedin is Indian not Arab.  Although she is in fact Muslim.

This exchange was in a Jewish deli in Brooklyn.  It's not "likely considerable Semitic ancestry" they're all Jews.  How many non Jews wear a yarmulke and commune with a rabbi?  Everyone involved is a Jew except the deli workers who are all Mexican and Weiner's body man who is Asian

GalaxyGearForum
GalaxyGearForum

@LeeA194072 Nah, Weiner is running for public office so it's the citizen's OBLIGATION to judge him on his behavior.  Weiner is a d*ck.  Pun intended and true.

lukeduke

@GalaxyGearForum @LeeA194072

No, he doesn't have an obligation to judge. He has the right (assuming he lives in the 5 boroughs of New York City) to ***vote*** for who he thinks is the best candidate. What gives anyone the right to judge anyone else's personal life? I don't have that right and neither do you. What citizens *do* have is the power of the vote. Use it and move on! Anything else and you're judging. Remember Newt Gingrinch judging Clinton for his sex scandal, only to find out he was cheating on his wife (again)? Usually the ones doing the judging have the most skeletons in their closet!

@DaveLobell @lukeduke @GalaxyGearForum @LeeA194072 No, no he does not. As a mayoral candidate, you can approve or disapprove. But to use racial slurs like that in front of kids is UNACCEPTABLE.

"scumbag married to an Arab". Weiner was 100% in the right to smack that ass**** down.

Clearly you are also one of those racist types.

DaveLobell

@lukeduke @GalaxyGearForum @LeeA194072 Yes, yes he does have every right to judge this fool.  All voters should apply a litmus test of suitablity for office upon the candidates.  How then exactly do we select a candidate and decide which one will represent the voters best interests, certainly not by ignoring the obviously disturbing character traits this derelict politician has shown us over and over again.
