Ruth Bader Ginsburg will officiate at a same-sex marriage ceremony Saturday, becoming the first Supreme Court justice to conduct the rite she helped protect in court earlier this year.

Ginsburg will lead the Washington, D.C. wedding between close friend Michael Kaiser, president of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and economist John Roberts (no relation to the Supreme Court Chief Justice), the Washington Post reports.

This summer, Ginsburg was in the majority in two Supreme Court decisions hailed as victories for gay marriage, including one that struck down the federal government’s right to restrict marriage to heterosexual unions. Same-sex unions have been legal in the District of Columbia since 2010.

The Supreme Court ruling is indeed a milestone, but  for some it would prove too late. Like my vivacious and gay Great Uncle Harry. A "confirmed bachelor", my Uncle Harry  was, next to a waiter passing the champagne,  the most sought after man at a mid-century wedding. The single gals buzzed around him like bees to honey.

The thing of it was, Harry's come hither eyes weren't directed to the bevy of beauties,  they were more directed at the Best Man. Friends thought him picky, an odd man out in a world geared to the married set. Harry was born too early to witness a wedding cake topped by 2 grooms or a time when his come hither eyes would be able to gaze more openly to the possibilities that were denied him. @TIME Marriage is a union of love. And you are not God, so shut up and let him judge his children accordingly. Happy about this.

@TIME Marriage is a union deeply rooted in religion... Who is playing husband and wife? More importantly, who is playing God?

More wicked than Jezebel. But there is a higher judge on a higher court who will deal with her shortly.

"The Son of Man (Jesus) shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do INIQUITY; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:41-42)

Good for Justice Ginsburg. I'm glad to know that some people in Washington take equal rights seriously.

@AlistairCookie, it would have been a nice touch if she would have conducted the ceremony in her chambers.
