And Brokeback Mountain would have been just another nice Southern romance if the characters hadn't been gay.
What's ridiculous is that "The Butler" would not have been turned into a movie if the title character was White.
This movie makes a purely emotional appeal to its target audience (presumably, minorities) by primarily focusing on the title character's race, and how someone 'of that race' could be successful in the White House.
I would love to see a similar movie made about the countless White European immigrants who survived discrimination and inferiority in society. Then again, "The Butler" is analogous to the joke about Black History Month, which goes:
"Blacks have their own month, but when's White History Month? Answer: The other 11 months of the year."
@mrbomb13 Tell me something, why is it that anytime something good and positive comes to the theater or anywhere for that matter does someone have to almost always try to make it something negative. So what if we have Black History Month, we deserve it. We have made some great contributions to this land, and our children and grand children need to know of their heritage. The white nations has everything else, so back off and don't continue to be ignorant. It is ok to share a little of the limelight. I promise you, the white nation, or any other nation will not miss it. I saw the movie, and as old as I am I learned some more about my heritage, and I am proud of what I learned. It actually made me come home and do some research, and learned that some of the movie was fiction, and some names had been changed, but bottom line it was a great movie, one that I would go see again, and would love to take my grandkids to see. And that is saying a lot considering all the crap that is on the screen now days that has nothing to do with reality .
@mrbomb13 I am a Proud Black Women and you obviously have some personal issues especially to blacks, whites and blacks stories in those times will never be of the same content thats what you fail to realize. So stop your ignorance
You totally missed the point of the movie. If you need it explained to you then something is seriously wrong with you.
@mrbomb13 Eugene Allan's entire life would have been drastically different if he had been white rather than black, so I fail to see what the point of your comment is. The history of a black butler at the White House has dramatically different implications than that of a white butler in the same timespan.
