CO2 rise follows historical temperature increases, with a lag of hundreds of years.  As the temperature increases more CO2 is released from the ocean.  Now, if CO2 were the driver in temperature increase the warmer the climate more CO2 would be released from the ocean in a death spiral.  That never happened despite CO2 levels of up to 7000 ppm in the past.

The earth has survived many extreme natural climate changes, none of them had any influence from mankind.

You don't want to accept the facts that dispute your environmental religion; you are just like any other religious fanatic.

Remember, @ahandout :

"Nya nya nya, I can't hear you" doesn't work in scientific discussions...

Priebus' 'listening tour' continues

FC: Before the show are they selling "Reince Priebus RNC Listening Tour" tee shirts?

I need to refresh my concert tee shirt collection. I'm down to my last "Oliver North Live at Folsom Prison" shirt. Boy what a time that was. Chuck Colson was the opening act but the topper was G. Gordon Liddy biting the heads off of live chickens.

Here the alarmists are still making crap up as they go: No warming?  Its in the oceans, its China's fault, its just "luck."  Very scientific stuff that luck.

What is really ironic (I know you liberals love you some irony) is when the author talks about manipulating statistics...short term and long term.  That is PRECISELY what the alarmists did in the 80s and 90s.  They took a short term temperature increase, if there really was one (who knows, they cannot produce the raw numbers) with all the data manipulations and selective cherry picking of ONE tree ring.

In the millions of years of earth's climate changes, 160 years of temperature readings is like looking at 160 seconds of the S&P 500 chart (let's call it an up day) and making a bet with trillions of dollars.  But, WTF do they care, it's not their money.  Maybe we can have those scientists produce "luck" for you and me, rainbows and unicorns for everyone.

Good news!  Obama is helping the private sector:

The trend began with President Obama's reelection...

Smith & Wesson's preliminary figures showed sales in its most recent quarter rose 38% versus a year prior to $179 million, also a record. The company will report its full fiscal year and fourth-quarter results on June 25.

Meanwhile Barry is sending arms to Al Qaeda in Syria...The foreign police of eaney meany miney moe... where will it end.

The most perverse twist, even given the complicated politics of the Middle East, is that the U.S. now finds itself sharing a goal with the Sunni extremist groups allied with al-Qaeda that are seeking to replace Assad’s secular regime with Islamic rule, said one of the officials. While the Islamists’ vision of a post-Assad Syria is clear, Obama’s isn’t, this official said.

Funny how liberals will accept the scientific idea that life on earth began with simple, single cell organisms, but don't accept that a complex living organism in a mother's womb is life.

The funniest part of your criticism is that you attribute a short period of increase as scientists just betting on the most recent gamble while turning around and doing the same thing with a short period of not-increase.  Ignoring the fact that you're point to 15 years of slow growth (and before that, it was a decade of negative growth), scientists tend to point to the two-century trend line.  But that's really beside the point: reality is far more complex than that

The research into climate science is far from limited to just taking trend lines and extending them ad infinitum.  If it were, we'd have exactly one scientist claiming he's done the research - science only publishes when someone contributes something new.  Instead, we have thousands of studies looking at various different things and analyzing what does and does not have impacts.  Science is supposed to be about finding the answers with eyes open - and scientists try their hardest to do so.  And believe me, considering the bleak future that global warming predicts, scientists have a lot of reason to want to be wrong.

The models are complex, powerful and impossible to simplify - because the Earth is impossible to simplify.  It's a massive ball with so many micro-forces that could still tear down buildings. We want to make sense of it, figure out how it functions and understand how this will impact society and every time we do the analysis, the answers we get back are that global warming is real.

The stat that is most useful is figuring out how much CO2 is generated per liter of oil or a kilogram of coal during burning, figure out how much oil and coal is burned each year, spread that over the surface area of the Earth, and figure out how that would impact your models on warming - and the answer comes back the same every single time: long term growth in the overall temperature of Earth.  Based upon just oil, gas and coal, the models say that the overall warming should be 13 C over 1000 years - which might not seem like a lot until you realize that 13C is the difference between NYC and Miami.  This isn't based upon using trend lines of weather patterns, this is based upon consumption of resources.

Scientists are the dumb monkeys you think they are nor are they the casino gamblers in New York who think that housing prices going up for 60 years mean they will always go up (though that would be even dumber because nothing can sustain going up at twice the rate of inflation - ever.  Earth's temperature could possibly go up at an insane rate at least until it's not really relevant - we're all dead anyways).

@forgottenlord @ahandout I point out that when you prove these "scientists" wrong about their dire predictions of global warming in the short term, that they move the goal posts, just like you do.

If its warmer, its global warming.  If its colder, its global warming.  Our projections of temperature were wrong?  Its global warming.  F... everything is due to global warming.

These "scientists" said that there was a correlation between CO2 and warming, and when the evidence show that there is no correlation, they just make other crap up, and you swallow it.

fitty_three
fitty_three

@forgottenlord

@ahandout is incapable of understanding that regardless of how quickly CO2 is injected into the atmosphere, the time frame for the CO2 cycle is 200,000 years.

It's like saying the KT mass extinction never occurred because the Chixulub impactor did the bulk of it's work in less than two weeks, total.*

*not forgetting the concurrent volcanism.:)

So, @ahandout , are you going to tell us the dinosaurs are still here?

Oh, wait...

@fitty_three @ahandout Pay no attention fitty. The worst fires in the recorded history of Colorado, the worst tornadoes in the recorded history of Oklahoma, super hurricanes, massive floods in South central Europe, etc. need to be explained away. Somehow.

@fitty_three @ahandout   The vast majority doesn't agree with you.  They don't want more gun regulations; you want confiscation.  Must be because you're nuts.

Sixty-two percent of Americans want the U.S. Senate to "move on" from stalled gun control legislation, according to a Reason-Rupe poll released Wednesday. Just 33 percent of respondents said the Senate should vote again on the bill.

@fitty_three

The assumption was not explicit - my first interpretation was "melt the ice caps versus boil the ocean?"

Also, screw the graph, use numbers.

4.2 kJ/kg * C for each degree to warm a gram of water

334 kJ/kg to melt ice to water

334 kj/kg / 4.2 kJ/kg * C = ~80C

forgottenlord

@ahandout

You don't prove anything.  You take a formula with hundreds of thousands of variables and point to one thing that might not be right and all of a sudden claim that you must be smarter than those scientists and that you clearly know more because you just disproved their claim.

Which is all hogwash.

And you are certainly the first idiot I've ever heard try to question the root assumption: that there is no correlation between CO2 and warming.  The fact that you'd even try to claim that demonstrates your fundamental inability to understand basic science.

fitty_three
fitty_three

@ahandout

You don't know anything about climate and the role of water in clamate.

Now, I'll give you a chance to prove that you do know something:

Has it been proven that melting ice takes as much energy as raising water's temperature from 32 to 212 F?

Wewill start there.

Nah.  I think he knew that Perry was going to run no matter what and he just convinced Perry to run at the time he was most able to convince the rest of America that Perry was a brain dead idiot.  After the screw up with Bush, he needed to be certain it would work this time.

fitty_three

I'm convinced that God has a sense of humor.  Maybe He would have Jesus tell Perry he was the Chosen One while he made sure everyone else knew not to vote for him.  The idea has that certain tang to it.

Reason rule is a partisan poll.

Time will tell. Washington state went around the NRA and put an initiative that will go to a popular vote in 2014.

Believe whatever you want, because it will set the tone and strategy to oppose the NRA lobbying efforts.

Given that the sky hasn't fallen and country is well on the road to recovery despite your hopes, I think that that will be a much better test of what Americans really think.
