New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo shot down a report that he is privately telling aides and supporters that he will not seek the White House if former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton runs for the presidency.
Speaking on WCNY’s The Capitol Pressroom, Cuomo simply responded “no” when asked about New York Post State Editor Fred Dicker’s report.
“I understand the Monday rumors reported,” he continued. “As you know, I go to great length not to engage in politics writ large and but especially not presidential politics. And Hillary Clinton is going to do whatever Hillary Clinton is going to do and I’m doing what I’m doing and I’m focusing on running the state and doing the best I can. And that’s all there is to that.”
“I also think the public is tired of all the presidential speculation,” he continued.
Dicker sourced a “Cuomo administration insider with direct knowledge of the situation,” who said, “The governor has told people in recent weeks that there’s not a chance for him to run if Hillary gets in the race because she’ll easily wrap up the Democratic nomination…He knows that and he accepts that, and so he won’t even be thinking at all in those terms — unless Hillary decides not to run, which seems unlikely.”
