Police officers draw their weapons after hearing a second explosion near the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon in Boston, on April 15, 2013.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has released a statement responding to the explosions at the Boston Marathon:

This is a horrific day in Boston. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured. I have been in touch with the President, Mayor Menino and our public safety leaders. Our focus is on making sure that the area around Copley Square is safe and secured. I am asking everyone to stay away from Copley Square and let the first responders do their jobs.

I really feel for the families that have been impacted by this terrible act.....

Sen Feinstein reporting of no known intelligence hinting possible attack.  Suggests lone wolf rather than organized - you generally can hear whispers leading up to an organized strike even if you don't have a specific time and place.  Could be that there's still something that wasn't deemed important or something so we'll see.

I think I've lost any desire to post any more tonight. Goodnight folks.

Okay, now we are in the big empty-time, where there's nothing to go on but speculation until the professionals do their job.

Aftermath news:

@redcrosseastma: Due to generosity of our donors we don't need blood at this time. Please schedule future donation

@LukeRussert: NBC News: A law enforcement official says one of the two people killed in today's explosions was eight years old.

City of Boston, we are with you!

I hope, hope, hope that all responsible parties are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

My thoughts go out to the families/friends of the victims.  Let the marathon go on and thrive after this year.  Let it be known that we are AMERICANS, and we will not live in fear of those that hate us and want to see us fail.

OK, lurked a long time on here, but now I have to ask.  Anyone know if RetiredVet's alright?

I would caution anyone from laying blame until more is known or someone claims responsiblity.

@forgottenlord Something a lot of people are pointing out on WBZ's AM station up here is that April seems to be the month for home-grown attacks.  The date, too, is domestically significant -- aside from taxes (this year) it's the observance of Lexington & Concord.  Oklahoma was on the actual date of the battles.

But like you said, we'll see.  Personally I was wishing this was a gas main at the worst time ever until I saw the blast in the video and, well...

Count is now at 2 killed, 100+ injured.

It was an act perpetrated by a coward. When they're brought to justice, I hope the trial is closed. I wouldn't want them to get one second on the soapbox.

@WolfBard

Didn't know he was in the Boston area. I hope he's alright.

Don't be a stranger.

I would suspect that retiredvet is checking on friends or family or else closely following the unfolding events on the tube. I share your concern though.

This just sucks. I had good news too. Maybe some other time.

@sacredh Fire-related, probably not bombed. I was keeping track down in the MMRs.

@sacredh I heard on NPR about an hour ago that a "person of interest" was in custody.  Hopefully we will know more soon.

@grape_crush@WolfBardWe're all safe and well here. Thanks for asking. Metro Boston is much bigger than the marathon course. I was out cleaning the garage when the blasts happened.

I think he's fine grape-crush. He posted after the last blast.

@forgottenlord @WolfBard Great to hear, thanks.  It was chaos with cellphones even in NH this evening.  I was lucky to reach everyone right after news broke.

@Paul,nnto @WolfBard Don't think so, he had some posts around 5 hours ago as I just scanned the MMRs, but since he's in the area it concerned me.

I hope that's the case. Thanks grape-crush. I just walked in the door a few minutes ago.

@Diecash1 @sacredh

Person of interest is reportedly someone here on a student visa. Officially, no one is in custody.

Thanks Diecash1. I really don't suspect any particular foreign or domestic group. The possibilities are almost endless and OKC couldn't have been anymore  wrong than what was initially thought.

Give my regards and sympathy to your partner retiredvet. He sounds like a very caring person.

Off to work. Last one.

Good morning. We live 20 miles outside downtown so we felt safe as someone from out of state. My partner is still a basket case because there were children killed and injured. He's still not over the Sandy Hook incident.

I'm glad you're safe and sound retiredvet. Good morning too.

@sacredh Yeah, there's really not much to go on at this point.  Were I to hazard a guess, I'd say that it's a domestically-based perpetrator but, then again, who knows?

@sacredh Or the Atlanta Olympic bombing.

Everything being reported should be consumed with caution.
