“Congressman Young's remarks were offensive and beneath the dignity of the office he holds. I don't care why he said it—there's no excuse and it warrants an immediate apology.”— Speaker John Boehner to Roll Call today. Rep. Don Young (R-AK) referred to Latinos as "wetbacks," in an interview with Alaskan radio station KRBD.
Explanation of why the souther states are as a bloc opposing Obamacare:
"A South Carolina legislator put it bluntly earlier this year. State Rep. Kris Crawford told a business journal that he supports expansion, but said electoral math is the trump card. "It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now, especially for the Republican Party," he said."
Nothing wrong with that. I mention that bloc of old white guys who lead the Republican party all the time.
The Republicans are having trouble adjusting to the fact that in modern media you can't just say something to one group of people and not expect the public to hear it. It's really making their strategy of letting racists know that they support them privately while denying it publicly far more difficult.
I posted this on two other threads. Note to GOP - Plesae slow down with the stupid. We can't keep up with the steady barrage:
"I'm old enough to remember a day when the republicans were good at politics-always lousy with actual governing but good at winning elections-and now they can't go a day without stepping on their collective...let's go with message"
Me, a day ago.
If I was a fan of conspiracy theories, I'd say they were plants from the democrats intent on damaging the republicans and making them look as bad as possible. They're not. They're just saying what they believe. Bless their crazy, bigoted @sses.
Between this comment and another about homosexuals you could argue that there's much communication fail within GOP right now. I guess they haven't synchronized the 'messaging' yet.
It's not the remarks that were offensive and beneath the dignity of the office, it's the racism behind them. The line forms on the right.
The extreme makeover isn't working. The party of extremes is still extreme. AND, they just won't shut up.
Ooooh! Hold me back!
Boehner will cry three rivers of tears if he doesn't.
Of course, not a word to Rush, huh?
@sacredh "I certainly apologize if I offended anyone"
So. Very. Sincere.
Wait until the 2020 census. If the redistricting goes in the opposite direction, there will be no shutting them up.
@sacredh Gonna be a long hard row to hoe spinning the GOP's true beliefs about those others into an alternative reality. You can only stretch it so far before it snaps back.
Priebus where art thou rubber band man?
@shepherdwong It's the same excuse Rick Perry gave about the name of his ranch. To the GOP it's just the way they used to call people back in the day, so that supposedly makes it ok.
@roknsteve GOP = Geriatric Occidental Pigs
@roknsteve GOP= Grumpy Old People
At least Boehner seaid something right for a change.
"I certainly apologize if it means that I've damaged my career in any way. I don't mean this but the RINOs in my party are really pitching a b1tch."
Reading between the lines.
@sacredh The one thing you could always count on with the GOP was lockstep messaging (propaganda) using conventional media.
When the internet became more of a factor in elections, with its free for all information, their messaging has become easily investigated, reported and discounted for the kick in the balls it is.
As proof, did you hear about Mr Young's comment on your local evening news?
@sacredh You would think so and yet evidence suggests...
La_Randy, I don't think LeBron liked losing the other night. He had 28 pts in the first 17 minutes of the game against New Orleans.
@outsider2011 @53_3Boehner (and Priebus earlier) said the right thing, but pretty words need action to enforce them. Let's see Mr. Tears for Fears punish his offending Tea's by stripping commitee posts (a second time, to prove earlier first time wasn't a fluke), official censures, returning the TP primary threats by endorsing and funding RINO primary challenges, etc. Words and tears aren't enough, Boehner.
@sacredh Not that they are the end all be all of news of course.
@sacredh Down here we get almost no national news or in depth state news. I rely on NPR.
I didn't watch it yet. I'm still going to buy the 3D blu-ray when it comes out. I think people have to have a bit of a screw loose to illegally download music or movies though. The fines are huge. I want to go see it at the theater before I watch it.
@sacredh Being kind has its rewards! Is it a good movie?
La_Randy, a couple of weeks ago on the way home from work I stopped at the store and the young woman ahead of me was a couple of dollars short on her stuff. I gave her a couple of dollars to cover it. This afternoon I was down getting gas and she was walking out of the store as I was walking in. She said that she was hoping she'd run into me and asked me to wait a second. She went to her car and got a dvd out of it . It didn't have anything written on it and she said to watch it and that I'd like it. I tried to refuse (I thought it was homemade porn or something) but she insisted. I was just going to throw it away when I got home but i stuck it in the computer to see what it was. It was a good copy of Oz: The Great and Powerful. Lol.
I would call it lip service but it really has more to do with those overactive tear ducts.
