The early morning sun rises behind the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC.

  • Obama plans to announce today Thomas E. Perez as Labor Secretary.
  • As the Supreme Court prepares to consider the American tradition of marriage, the justices display a wide range of personal choices reflective of the modern experience.
  • South Carolina’s 1st congressional primary is tomorrow. We’ll see if former Gov. Mark Sanford is forgiven.
  • As the Republican Party sets its own path for success today, Jeb Bush has his own ideas.
  • Graphic: tax breaks are tilted toward the wealthy.
  • Mexico’s new president proposes to reform television and telecoms to spur the economy.
  • Cyprus is going through extraordinary measures to secure a 10 billion euro bailout. Every depositor could have a one-off tax between 3% and 15%.
  • Crazy pictures from this past weekend’s CPAC.

"Europe is risking a bank run"

"I am using the expressions “in all but name” and “effectively” because legally, Cyprus is not defaulting or imposing losses on depositors. The country is levying a tax of 6.75 per cent on deposits of up to €100,000, and a tax of 9.9 per cent above that threshold. Legally, this is a wealth tax. Economically, it is a haircut."

This article was written by a person who actually favors confiscating the wealth of the so called rich.

I imagine that there will be a new run on gold as a result of the Cypriot bank looting.

"The Unions vs. Obamacare"

' "I heard [Obama] say, ‘If you like your health plan, you can keep it,’ ” John Wilhelm, chairman of Unite Here Health, representing 260,000 union workers, recently told the Wall Street Journal. “If I’m wrong, and the president does not intend to keep his word, I would have severe second thoughts about the law.” Besides Wilhelm, some of the nation’s largest union bosses have taken to publicly criticizing the Affordable Care Act."

Next time be careful what you wish for, boys.

"THE HOCKEY STICK, BROKEN AGAIN"

"We wrote here about a recent effort by a group of climate alarmists headed by geologist Shaun Marcott to resurrect Michael Mann’s discredited hockey stick. The Marcott paper, as you would expect, received uncritical coverage in the liberal press. But it didn’t take long for climate scientists to begin taking it apart, as we noted in our post."

Lies, damn lies and leftist climate scientists.

@paulejb Are you suggesting that the only Christians can be Republicans and that all non-Christians are Democrats?

Well, that explains a lot about why you're posting links from a white nationalist site...

@paulejb

Dozens of different methodologies have been tried many different ways and all of them basically come up with the same conclusion as the Hockey Stick graph.  Sure, individual tests might have some flaws that might affect results here and there.  Error bounds exist in all of Science.  But reproducability is law.  When various different methodologies all come up with approximately the same result, it is more likely that the result is correct than each of these methodologies is inherently flawed.

@paulejb Sourced from Anthony Watts, a Heartland Institute crony.

Documents obtained from the Heartland Institute and made public in February 2012 reveal that the Institute had agreed to help Watts raise $88,000 to set up a website, "devoted to accessing the new temperature data from NOAA's web site and converting them into easy-to-understand graphs that can be easily found and understood by weathermen and the general interested public."[49][50][51] The documents state that $44,000 had already been pledged by an anonymous donor, and the Institute would seek to raise the rest

In paulie's world, the scientists are liars and those who profit from climate change denialism are telling the truth.

But then, paulie's very gullible.

No, it is more likely to be the sharks of Wall Street who collasped the market for the country as a whole as they did in the housing disaster.  The only group that wins no matter how much they screw up the government, the states, or the individual are the bankers.  The bankers, working with the national Chamber of Commerce have destroyed more jobs and retirement than any government could.  Tens of thousands worked an additional 5-7 years because their retirement IRAs and 401k's were destroyed by the crooks in the finance industry and none went to jail.  They all should be in jail and not Danbury.

MementoMori

Yeah, I posted that earlier. I wish paulie would try to keep up.

But then, I was laughing at people like paulie whose unmitigated hatred for Obama is so great that they actually think he's supernaturally evil. That's some grade-A mindless hatred right there.

Ever read some of the tripe submitted by some of your fellow hive drones, Mori? It's like an atheist convention here.

And there's the dilemma, MM.  Do we respond to his obvious untruths  and have him "lord over the hive" or simply ignore him?

Actually, Democrats are the only ones who act on what Jesus said about taking care of the "least of us" while Republicans apparently have a translation that says screw the less fortunate for the gain of the rich and powerful.  Why do most of the Republicans, when they start talking about religion, sound like Pharisees?

And this is a problem, why?

@ARTRaveler

There is a revolving door between Wall Street and Democrat administrations in Washington and elsewhere. Just ask Jon Corzine or Tim Geithner.

That's from 2004, paulie. And you're still to cowardly to answer the question. As a die-hard GOPer, you'd think this would be easier for you. Here, I'll cut to the chase for you.

You're a Republican. Technically, you're part of a small sliver of Republicans that cleave to a racially segmented version of extreme libertarianism - kinda like the stuff they preach at VDARE and the other sites you frequent.

You also believe that Republican are the party of the Christians, and Dems are everyone else.

And you think America should be run by Republicans.

Ergo, you think America should be run by Christians, preferably white and male.

What's baffling is that you'll hint at it, but you're too much of a coward to actually say it without playing your sad little games.

But then, I expect that most racists - deep down inside - are ashamed of themselves.

MementoMori
MementoMori

@paulejb @MementoMori That's not what I asked.

I asked you if Republicans are the Christian party and Dems are 'everyone else'.

You're very good at slinging crap. You're very bad at being honest.

@nflfoghorn

I would be inclined to agree if there was any hope of preventing it from getting a foothold; but as he won't admit he's full of bs, it's there anyway.

Some people (my self included in the past) have said we have to argue with him for the casual passerby, so they don't think that what he says is true, or that he doesn't represent the views of the majority here.

But now i think if he's totally ignored, that would probably speak loudly to how seriously we all take him; i mean, we can post, just not to him. But like you, decon and i are having a conversation now - none of us are addressing him, or his stupidity - but we're still conversing, and showing just how little regard we have for the troll.

Just a thought bud; that's how i'm seeing it these days anyway. If and when he goes back to having a decent conversation, by all means engage him; but when he's posting white supremest weblinks just to get a reaction, i choose not to react.

nflfoghorn
nflfoghorn

Outie and Decon, I hear you.  I fully understand that he doesn't give a darn about being truthful and he will never admit when he's wrong (which is virtually everything he posts).  I guess that's the frustrating part.

His "Topper" mentality combined with low- to no-class source links guarantees that he "wins" every argument.  It would seem that he would take a hint from his fellow neocoons [sic] and just leave here.  Heck, I wouldn't even mind if he had the decency to be respectful of others' views but he won't even do that.

As evidenced by his inane response to Swiftboating he shows each day how irrelevant he is; isn't it our job to point it out before it grabs a foothold?

deconstructiva
deconstructiva

@nflfoghorn Ignore him, Foggy. He only wants replies, any replies, and will post garbage to get ANY attention. There's a difference between Kerry needing to refute swiftboating in '04 vs. enabling trollery by paulie and the other usual RW idiots.

MementoMori
MementoMori

@paulejb @MementoMori Sure there is!

Saying there's an 'unreported race war' of blacks killing white people and posting links from white nationalist sites like VDARE is a much better way to be a 'racial arsonist'. I'd say you have it down to a science, but I know how much you don't like scientists.

Now come on, paulie. Surely you've got something negative to say about blacks in Chicago? You've already covered the NBPP and Al Sharpton - that's the only space I haven't checked off yet.

MementoMori

@paulejb @MementoMori You thought he looked like Obama. Does Obama look black to you?

@paulejb @MementoMori Thinking Obama is Satan is not indicative of a functioning brain. Quite the opposite in fact.

By the way, paulie, what do your friends at VDARE think? Is Satan a black man, too?
