Israel Uneasy on Iran Ahead of Obama’s Visit

America's latest offer to Iran, reducing the country's enriched-uranium output in return for lesser sanctions, may produce some friction for Obama as he visits Israel for the first time next week as President.

Top officials from the U.S., France, Germany, Britain, China, Russia and Iran take part in talks on Iran's nuclear program in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Feb. 27, 2013

I recently wrote on Obama’s first-term progression on Iran, from engagement to saber rattling, as a walk-up to what will be a consequential year of diplomacy between Washington, Jerusalem and Tehran.

Today the Wall Street Journal’s Gerald Seib takes a closer look at what’s coming, with a particular eye to Obama’s Israel trip next week. At negotiations in Kazakhstan between Iran, the U.S. and other world powers last month, the U.S. offered to ease sanctions slightly and let Iran keep less than a bomb’s worth of highly enriched uranium for research purposes in exchange for freezing it’s enrichment operations at a hard-to-bomb facility at Fordo, and other confidence-building measures.

That offer, reports Seib, left Israel uneasy:

Israel, however, isn’t confident. It sees the latest proposal as a rollback from the world’s earlier and tougher positions, which called for shipping out of Iran almost all of its stockpile of even less-well-enriched uranium, and the shutdown rather than merely the suspension of production at the Fordo enrichment facility.

More talks are scheduled for later this month and for April. Watch for signs of friction over Iran when Obama is in Israel next week.

Abandoning and aggressively isolating the Jewish state would force it to abandon its existential threats to Iran, horrors wreaked upon Palestine and paranoid pursuit of invulnerability, territorial conquest and racist empire in, and beyond, the Mideast. America would regain stature among nations and financial integrity. There is no greater or kinder support that we could render to the Mideast, and our “inseparable Mideast ally.”

NO MORE WARS! The Jewish state has ICBM nukes and openly threatens Iran, actually campaigns for war against Iran. Israel, not Iran, is the warmonger. Resolution lies with lifting all sanctions and compensating Iran for damages from the $$$ billions we will no longer be giving the Jewish state. An Iran with nukes just might inhibit the Jewish state's brutish pursuit of invulnerability, territorial conquest and apartheid empire. Mutually assured destruction could actually make Mideast peace possible. NO MORE WARS!

Israel should ship out all of it's nukes and enriched uranium before asking Iran to do the same. Israel is the warmonger that attacks her neighbors every couple of years not Iran. Israel is the apartheid state with millions of it's citizens living in refugee camps because of their religion not Iran.

Look, a country that created Abu Graib, Guantanamo Bay, the secret prisons and prison ships around the world, a country that launched two recent wars on faked justifications and killed more than a million civilians, a country that overthrew 13 legitimate democracies, and that installed and financed 42 bloody and brutal dictatorships around the world, shouldn't be telling another country "what to do to protect themselves"!

Israel has no say in the matter, they are the ones who sold Apartheid South Africa nuclear technology (SEE VELA INCIDENT). And remember .... the democratically elected government of Iran was overthrown by the CIA and Britain's MI6 in 1953. Do you really think they want to hear what we have to say ?

South Africa? What a wonderful place to visit. They ran the civilized people out. Just look at it now. Well done Marcus. .

Gerald Seib of WSJ simply lies about Iran. His writing on Iran have no basis on fact. He just repeats the same nonsense every few months.

Obama has transformed Bush's stupid "carrot and stick" policy towards Iran to the "stick and more sticks" policy. He has just piled up sanctions with no end in sight and Congress has even outdone him. There is no end to this phony dispute with Iran. Iran has no nuclear weapons but, just like in Iraq, the stupid politicians in Washington will not be bothered with facts. So, along with Israel, they will push for a war with Iran. Fortunately, we are broke and Iran is a lot stronger than Iraq. So, there will probably be no war, but this comedy of errors will continue for decades just like in the case of Cuba.
