Morning Must Reads: February 21

Mark Wilson / Getty Images

The early morning sun rises behind the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC.

  • A new poll by USA Today/Pew Research shows that 22% of Americans consider themselves Republicans, a nearly record low. There is popular support for a minimum wage increase, immigration reform, and gun background checks.
  • Sen. Bob Menendez’s approval rating has dropped 15 points in a month due to his recent scandal.
  • Pentagon on sequester: 750,000 civilians would experience pay cuts of about 20 percent between late April and September.
  • Prettier in print:
  • As Karl Rove’s critics smell blood, the GOP strategist advises his party to avert the sequester by giving Obama more authority to move funds around in a continuing resolution.
  • Can Presidents use drones against journalists?
  • New Republic cover story: “Prudes have rarely done well” in the CIA.

Gun fetishists like to say that *insert statistics of something that outkills guns* but here's one for the books; cars and guns in a lethal combo.

Imagine how this would've been avoided if everyone had guns.

@MrObvious I just dawned on me this afternoon that they need guns to protect their gun rights.  Circular logic.

NRA says - do nothing and buy more guns.

It's a pity that a majority of people and gun owners agree in basic gun control measures.

@MrObvious There's millions of guns here in California and strict gun laws and we have more important problems.

@MrObvious From the article:

"The NRA ad is an outrageous misrepresentation of the president's commonsense proposals to reduce gun violence, based on an incomplete review of gun violence research," an administration official told CNN last week. "The ad claims that in order for our proposals to work, we would have to confiscate guns and create a national gun registry. That is simply not true. The president strongly believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms, and the administration has never supported a gun registry or gun confiscation."

Though, I'm sure our little Archie Bunker wannabe will continue to argue with strawmen.

Tools like NRA have to lie to tools like shitbarge. Only thing is this; they don't really have too. It's not like he will suspect the truth any less then he'll swallow NRAs swill. You don't have to fool fools - they're more then willing to do the paranoid work for themselves.

"Background Checks deemed discriminatory by Obama Administration Agencies"

So why does Obama insist on background checks for guns? Is he a racist?

I'll take you seriously when you stop insisting on sounding like a moon barking toad okay? Until then you're a gutter sniper that we all point and laugh at.

No one takes you seriously other then other people like yourself. If you don't believe me then ask your mom; if she has to pause for 5 seconds contemplating telling you the truth or if she comes back to you right away with 'Ono, son, you're special to us' then you have your answer.

Take it or leave it; start adding to the conversation like a human being and we'll treat you like one. Until then you better stop sniffing your finger. It's unbecoming of an adult.

And trust me; I will never read your links. You couldn't pay me real money for me to lower my IQ like that.

@paulejb @MrObvious Yes because hiring someone should require the same level of background investigation as being allowed to purchase a weapon. Only in Right Wing Bizarro word does that logic makes sense.

"The sisters, staunch Republicans, have long argued the prosecutions were the result of a political vendetta by Democratic Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr., allegedly because the Ories have opposed the expansion of legalized gambling, an industry in which Zappala's relatives have an interest.

Zappala has repeatedly denied any improper motive and said the investigation began simply because an intern for then-Sen. Orie came to his office in October 2009 and complained about political campaign work that the lawmaker's staff was being made to do for Melvin, just days before she won a seat on the state's highest court."

Of course there was a reason for the party identification in the second to last paragraph of the story.

Never mind the obvious illegality. It's not so much the party but some peoples need to defend said wrongdoing if it has the right party affiliation. Others I assume (me at least) look at all criminal behavior as wrong regardless of party. It's an integrity thingy.

Your not-subtle-at-all reminder that the black caucus is (using your standard venacular) "a Democrat group" makes it appear that we were all born on February 20, 2013.  Dollying up your link to make it now seem that you're not directing your vitriol specifically toward one race falls flat on its backside.

And that's the sad fact.

You infer that all black lawmakers are inherently criminal.  That is a blatantly racist statement coming from a blatantly racist person.  If you need help deciphering that, rent a mirror, sicko.

To anyone lurking - the Swampland is not really a bad place. The swampfever (or shitbarge) is in therapy. Only problem is that no professionals want to see him so he comes here to expunge any pent up stupidity. Your safest bet is to come here and share before noon and late at night after he falls asleep at the keyboard or trips all over his pants and knocks himself out.

You can blame Obama, only for the fact that Obama winning drove him nuts. We do apologize for it, but we also cherish our first amendment and the rights given by Time to anyone posting here. If you overlook the croaking from our local toad you'll find the rest of us a lot more receptive to an honest good debate. Just don't feed the troll. It's like a mental snapping turtle or like the analogy of the scorpion and the frog; it's in its nature.

I apologize. The 'hive mind' is the legio of voices in shitbarge's head. It's the kind of fantasy of what he think 'libruls' are and that have kept his lilly white arse down his whole puckered life.

Note. Shitbarge is the one who will always oppose anyone regardless if it also contradicts something he have claimed previously. He lives in constant contradiction to what he think is 'librul'. Many people have agreed with paulejb in the past only to have him go rabid on them for doing so.

Call it life through projection. It's no longer a conflict - there's no twitching eye or some kind of facial tick when something inside of him realize that what he's saying doesn't compute with a natural impulse to stave off stupid thoughts. He just rolls with it now.
