“I always say to people, before you begin to drool at the mouth and go crazy and scratch our eyeballs out, read the damn report.”— Former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-WY) to his critics who ridiculed the 2010 deficit reduction plan he co-sponsored with Democrat Erskine Bowles, according to TPM. Bowles and Simpson unveiled a new plan today.
dont bring reality and facts into this, Mr Simpson, this is the Kardashian era, there must be "something wrong" with you
look a Detroit, that is where we're going with the crowd in charge now
There seems to be a difference in the new plan over the old plan.
"The deficit hawks want to hurry and cut spending now. Their goal, after all, is smaller government and lower taxes on the wealthy needed to support it. Thus, they need to get the cuts in place before people figure out that they've been misled about the immediacy of the problem -- the scary projections are down the road, not tomorrow -- and that the problem is not as big as we thought."
Simpson needs more than his lying eyes scratched.
"The main policy debate here isn’t about deficits, but about spending, and specifically spending on the elderly. The number of elderly people is expected to grow as a share of the population, and because some of our elderly-focused spending specifically targets health care, the volume of spending per old person is also poised to rise. What to do about that—to increase the taxation of the non-elderly to pay the tab, or to cut the tab by reducing our commitment to helping the elderly—is what’s being debated."
This is the 4th Simpson/Bowles proposal. It's been read. It's been vetted. It's been considered. It's unpopular. Sorry, Alan. If you were asking for a date in the office you'd have long crossed the bounds of harassment. Once is okay. Twice is creepy. Third is a call to human resources. Fourth is a call to an attorney.
I have this image of Simpson button-holing one person after another and shouting into each face "Before you begin to drool at the mouth and go crazy and scratch our eyeballs out, read the damn report.” How long until one of them calls the cops -- or the guys with the straitjackets?
Krugman has a word or two to say as well. Love the last sentence.
Ever occur to you, Alan, that they DID read the report... and STILL feel like doing that to you?
As for the "drooling at the mouth" bit, you need to talk to the GOP about that, as those are their "base"...
Before yelling at us, you might want to have a little talk with your fellow committee members... you know, the ones familiar with it that you couldn't even convince to endorse YOUR report.
And, while you're at it, remind everyone to "get off of your lawn".
@Ivy_B I watched them for a short time this morning and finally I came to a similar conclusion with Krugman's last sentence.
I changed the channel and used an adjective that Krugman did not use.
@AfGuy You said everything I wanted to say to the old windbag, particularly your third sentence. He sounds just like John McCain and Lindsay Graham - whiny.
