Inhofe Asks Hagel Why Iran Endorses His Nomination

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) asks Chuck Hagel when he stopped beating his wife during the SecDef confirmation hearing.

Two days after Jim Inhofe (R-OK) became one of three senators to vote down John Kerry’s nomination for Secretary of State, Inhofe turned his sight on the Defense Secretary nominee, Chuck Hagel.  Inhofe, the ranking member on the Armed Services Committee, has already stated that no matter what happens in the hearing he will not support Hagel.  The clip below proves he has already made up his mind:

Inhofe:

“Given that Iran, the people — I’m quoting right now from Iran — people of the Middle East, the Muslim region and North Africa, people of these regions hate America from the bottom of their heart. It further said Israel is a cancerous tumor in the heart of the Islamic world. They further said Iran’s warriors are ready and willing to wipe Israel off the map. The question I’d like to ask you, and you can answer for the record if you’d like, why do you think the Iranian foreign ministry so strongly supports your nomination to be the Secretary of Defense?”

Hagel:

“I have a difficult enough time with American politics, Senator. I have no idea, but thank you. And I’ll be glad to respond further for the record.”

It's amazing how any idiot can become a Republican Senator.

.

People used to be ashamed of being ignorant. Inhofe seems to think it's his best festure.

McCain, Graham and now Cruz make my skin crawl. I hope they are keenly aware that one day their power will be gone and the will be just old ugly white guys who climbed over bodies trying to like like BIG MEN.

If one uses more colloquial trend...the senators are supposed to be the equivalent of "princes" in our government. Why can we not elect a senate that has the dignity and honor befitting their station? Half of them are mindless ideologues, and the others have largely outlived their relevance.

Once upon a time, we in Texas could make fun of the Okies for this. Then, damn it, we went and elected Ted Cruz.

Why does he still have any relevance. The fools thinks global warming is a Hoax and gets dumber and more out of touch from there.

He's the GOTP Senator from Oklahoma.  What did you expect?

Inhofe shows once more that sometimes the greatest morons are not the voters that put him there, but the moron who gladly ran all the way to the bank with a derp look.

He is by far one of the most stupid politicians this country have suffered. Not because he's GOP, but precicely because he's a non-scientific moron that often confuse his own religious phobias with common sense and also have the political power to enforce that dumb stuff on the rest of us.

I'm not sure what's dumber....the question or the half dozen offensively stupid things he said leading up to it.

@sacredh The average conservative is not only proud of his ignorance, it's the only thing keeping him/her from a schizophrenic breakdown.

@sacredh Problem with that is that it won't work.  He'll be confirmed rather easily.

@jnewellr What I don't understand is why McCain is always in favor of war. The man has been to war, he's seen what it is. Why is he always so eager to send yet another generation off to die?

Princess Lindsey will do whatever his man-crush McCain says, and Cruz is trying to make a name for himself. The man isn't stupid, but he is ambitious and dangerous. He'll do anything, say anything to acquire power. Watch him. The man's a snake.

@Sue_N  I moved to Oklahoma five years ago and cannot believe the OK politics.  Schools now at 47th in the nation.  I read TX is 48 now.  Southern politics suck.  Cruz may make crazy ole Inhofe look smart.  My sympathies.

@MrObvious How correct you are.  I live in Oklahoma and flood the mailbox of this guy.  He is a total idiot and Oklahomans keep voting him back in office.  He even brags about spending $250,000 traveling to Africa on our tax dollars doing his ministry work.  I think he now has dementia on top of being stupid.  Then we have Mattress Mary Fallin......

nfl, I think he gets confirmed too. My wife and I were talking last night about McCain, Graham, Cruz and Inhofe showboating and appearing so angry. My wife doesn't like Obama and didn't vote for him in 2008 or 2012, but she thinks Obama's rise in his approval ratings may be because he looks so good in comparison.

@Sue_N @jnewellr My take is that there has been a group of people who have never let go of the desire to settle the score with Iran ever since the hostage crisis in 1979-80 after the toppling of the shaw.  It is why we supported Saddam Hussein in the Iran-Iraq ware and overlooked his gassing his own people and the other brutalities of his regime throughout the 1980s.  Any defense secretary who seems likely to not attack Iran will be denigrated by this group of people.

@Sue_N @jnewellr  I agree about Ted Cruz.  He is no dummy but I think he is no smarter than he thinks he is.......He reminds me of Darryl Issa Rep from California and one of the richest men in the House of Reps.  He is utterly contemptuous in his "investigations" and heads up ethics committee.  He has felony gun charges on his record but has made a fortune in business and continues to buy his office even though he is very much disliked in California.  Ted Cruz is dangerous but I feel he will encounter someone soon to put him in his place.  I hope the cameras are running.

@jnewellr @Sue_N I can remember when insanity wasn't a prerequisite for serving in Texas politics. Our politicians actually used to be interested in getting things done, even if it meant working with people in the other party.

Now … forget it. Ideology is all that matters. Cruz is a Tea Party darling who actually campaigned on that Agenda 21 nonsense ("the UN's coming after our golf courses!"). Give us a few years, and we'll be challenging Mississippi for rock-bottom.

@turbovega @Sue_N @jnewellr That's a very interesting point, and one I'd never considered before. But it makes perfect sense. Iran humiliated us, and we've never taken that well. And since we haven't been able to "punish" Iran any other way, then war looks to these people like the best way.

Just never mind the fact that we don't quite seem to have the hang of fighting in the Middle East and have done major damage to our military (and economy) proving that.
