Israel Moves Left

Wow. Exit polls indicate that the Knesset will be nearly equally divided between left and right. There’s even a slim chance that Benjamin Netanyahu could lose.

The actual shape of the coalition won’t be determined for days, perhaps weeks. But it seems clear that this has been a real setback for Netanyahu and radical settler allies. That’s good news for the cause of peace–at the very least, Netanyahu is going to have to move to reflect the will of the Israeli population–although that will be tricky and difficult if a challenge to his leadership rises from within his Likud Beitenu party/

Am glad for a little of the wind to be taken out of Netanyahu's sails, and for it to be more possible for many in this country to make the point that being pro-Israeli isn't the same thing as being pro-Netanyahu.

Israel is the Janus of the ME:

tolerant / rabidly and violently bigoted

forever the victim / always the bully

 religious freedom / theocracy

rules by law / uses law to steal

respects human rights / violates them constantly

There's more, but that's enough for now.

Maybe because the people of Israel finally realize their only path forward is one of peace and negotiation, not perpetual grandstanding and bullying.

Simple math; sooner or later people get tired of macho words, inaction and constant conflict.

See also USA. We'll see if yahoooo will learn unlike our dear special bus GOP.

IBooboo has dragged Israel into the nastiest corner yet.  I think that the people of Israel really don't want to live in isolation as a pariah state shoulder to shoulder with their nemesis Iran.

I hope his days are done, but those nasties in the recombinant Likud party are just like the nasties here in the GOP..

They're hell bent on being hell bent.

If he can't a) manage the new coalition and b) give a crap about the peace process, Nahoohoo should give it up to someone who can.

BiBi's loss would be Israel's gain. Addition by subtraction.
