“Second inaugurals are always like second weddings. The first time brings excitement, great expectations, in fairy tale settings. The second time, reality sets in.”
— Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation on January 13, 2013. President Obama's second inauguration is a week from today.

Totally OT, but why can I only sign in on my phone and not my computer? I've tried both Firefox and Safari, and no joy. And Chrome is a total no-go. My poor machine is too ancient for that one.

@Sue_N

Have you tried old fashioned Explorer?  I've found Chrome works best for LiveFyre but if that's not an option for you, you may have to switch back to the dreaded big E.

I always laugh when people try to paint Obama as an anti-oil President because he's hasn't been hooting "drill baby drill!" along with the GOP.

@DonQuixotic @sacredh What's incredible is that, at least down here in Texas, the oil and gas industry – you know, the people who actually work in oil and gas – are convinced (or at least make a lot of noise shouting) that Obama is killing oil and gas, that drilling is down and we're more dependent on foreign oil than ever. Seriously. Independent operators down here have all but ceased operations because they know, they just know, that Obama is killing their industry. They laid off an astounding number of landmen and field workers during his first administration in the hope that a Repub would win this time. You know, someone more "friendly" to the industry.

You cannot tell these people that drilling has increased under Obama. I know, I've tried. They look at me like I'm speaking Klingon.

Being from Virginia I can empathize with a stupid legislature.  We do have a saying to help us get through trying times:

"At least we're not Texas".  ;-)

And our idiot legislature just convened, so the stupid is about to get worse.

What reality??

The reality that the GOP has NO intention of working with him on pretty much ANYTHING?

I would have thought THAT particular "reality" would have set in about 6 months into his FIRST term.... or less.

If the republicans thought that the first term dragged on forever, they haven't seen nothin' yet. I hope Obama gives as many gray hairs as he gets.

"The second time, reality sets in.”

Reality has the advantage of being real. As Don Quixotic said "The President doesn't have to worry about reelection". His days of running for office and trying not to provide the right wing with campaign bumper stickers are in the past. Obama can do what the majority of Americans elected him to do and that's to fight for his agenda. This was a clear choice election and the majority of Americans chose Obama and his agenda.

I would think the second time would be just as jubilant, because now the President doesn't have to worry about reelection and can be as tough as he likes.
