Don'y you people know that in the Portland Mall shooting a responsible gun over kept that crazy guy from killing hundreds of people. He can armed to take the whole place out and instead only 2 were lost. If we are allowed to carry our protection we could save many more.

A little over 1% of Americans as members. I am not impressed. What do the other 300 million Americans think?

This headline is depressing, but not surprising. I have in-laws in Alabama. They believe every word from Faux News as gospel, are convinced Obama is a radical Satanist/baby-eater intent on stealing their guns, and are immune to argument or persuasion. One of them actually said that Newtown wouldn't have happened if some of those kids had been armed.

I hope this is the most depressing headline I read all day. What a bunch of nutters

If they come to take my guns and I don't have any, do you think I could get them to take an old couch instead? I'd hate to see them waste a trip.

The sad thing is these people don't realize they're being fed a healthy diet of fear and paranoia so the NRA and their firearm manufacturers can make a tremendous amount of money off them.  They don't care about your rights people, you are a walking deposit to them.

If a religion only had 4,000,000 members, wouldn't they be a cult?

As is typical, the corporatist press overlooks the corporatist point. The NRA (and it's 4.2 million paid members) are tools of the gun manufacturers. Again, as is typical, our problem is one of rapacious, socially-irresponsible corporate control over public policy, using lobbying organizations, the purchase of our elected representatives through campaign spending and indoctrinating millions of useful idiots in absurd dogma, to accomplish it's profit-obsessed goals.

That means that there are only 304,000,000 people left in the country that aren't members.

@kt No, he did not. He balked when it was apparent to him that shooting would endanger innocent bystanders.

I thank him for showing good judgement, but saying that he prevented more deaths is a long shot assumption.

@kt That's one.

Here's just a handful of gun deaths that occurred in the 72 hours after Newtown

On Saturday, shootings in Cleburne and Oxford counties in Alabama left two injured and three dead, including a child

A sheriff’s deputy in Missouri was shot in the back and killed while on the scene responding to an emergency medicla situation. The patient’s son ambushed the officer and shot him at close range in the back

Authorities investigated the shooting death of a boy in Southwest Denver.

A man was shot and killed in Harrisburg, Pa., his body dropped off at a local hospital.

A Nevada man shot and killed himself on Friday after shooting his girlfriend in the face.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, police responded to a murder suicide. A 76-year-old man shot and killed a 51-year old woman with a rifle in California City, Calif.

A 28-year old man was shot and killed while standing on a front porch early Sunday on the West Side of Chicago.

A 21-year old man was shot and killed by someone he knew in Charlotte, N.C..

Two Topeka, Kan. police officers were fatally shot in the head outside a grocery store Sunday responding to a suspicious vehicle report.

The tattoo artist in a Los Angeles tattoo parlor was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Sunday.

And that's not even all of them. Where were all of your gun-wielding heroes then?

@PerryWhite1 I'd place a small wager that, if you could get them to open up, they'd confess that they found the world to be a very scary place and that it was their parents who made them see it that way. Along with the parents of at least 30 million other Americans.

@sacredh

Fun fact, the Salvation Army has the right to refuse furniture you donate them.  I once tried to give an old couch to the salvation army, and due to a stain under one of the cushions (old chocolate I swear, this isn't a Seinfeld skit), they just left without it.  Those picky poor people.

@DonQuixotic The NRA is a business.Their job is not to represent your interests, but the interests of gun manufacturers. And conveniently, people give them money to do so.

@shepherdwong Hate to break it to you, but you're reading into an article that doesn't exist. This is just a number - how, exactly are they "overlooking the point" if there is absolutely NO COMMENTARY regarding the number in this article?

If somebody tells you the temperature, do you launch into a tirade about how the temperature is because of corrupt politicians ignoring climate change? If you get the time of day do you tout daylight savings time as referential to the pork-loaded farm subsidies and lackluster regulations?

@sacredh Well, more would have signed up but some us are off fighting abortions, birth control, Obamacare, voting rights and labor unions.  Think you would show some empathy here.

@gysgt213 @sacredh How are you going to free up manpower when the "zombie apocalypse" (which I have been assured is RIGHT around the corner) begins and they start to "steal our bodily fluids", as promised?

Can your merge causes and start to "abort zombies"?  Outlaw zombie unions?

You folks are way too busy for me. I was just trying to decide whether to play pool on the Wii or watch a movie.

They don't have to worry about stealing my bodily fluids. I'm perfectly willing to spray them.

@sacredh Don't worry we will let you know when America is back in Tea Party hands where it belongs.
