I want to wish all the swampland bloggers...even those with whom I have had many heated exchanges, a very happy Thanksgiving. One of those thankful things we need to acknowledge is that we are able to voice our diverse opinions and that we are all Americans who are in this fight together. I'm sure the Dems will reach across the aisle but it won't do any good. The GOP still doesn't get it. They will continue to obstruct any and all proposals made by the Presidfent. They just don't get it that the voters do NOT support continuing tax cuts for the rich. If they keep it up hopefully most of them will finally get voted out in 2014. Voters need to start voting for people who will get things done, not just have a temper tantrum about their losses.

Regardless of any deal that Republicans agree to there will never be any follow through by Democrats on spending cuts. Democrats have never honored an agreement to cut spending.

paulejb, the country has changed and it's going to keep on changing. The republican party is moving in the opposite direction. They're not changing and they're not adapting to a changing political environment. They have no one but themselves to blame. Their rightward tack has resulted in 4 more years for Obama. It may have cost them the Supreme Court. If they want to become even more entrenched and unwilling to change, then they can kiss the White house goodye for the next several elections.

fitty, they're between a rock and a hard place. Every four years the white majority goes down 2%. The minority vote increases by 2%. Women are 54% of the electorate. They don't appeal to women or minorities. They don't appeal to young voters either.They lost the presidency again. They lost seats in the senate and in the house. They lost all but one battleground state. Virginia is now a blue state. In 4 years it will be even bluer. Colorado has gone from a reliable red state to a likely blue state.

Where is their path to the White house? They move to the center and they lose the base. They move further to the right and they lose even more of the moderate vote. They're turning themselves into a regional party and their base is dying off.
MrObvious, changing demographics favor the democrats. They will continue to favor the democrats. The extreme right wing doesn't believe in demographics anymore than they believe that they got rejected in this election. In all probability, we're going to have a white candidate in 2016 and we'll get back the white rascist democratic voters that we lost in 2008 and 2012. Yes, there are rascist democrats. I work with a few. I wouldn't be so sure about 2014. Republican conservatives are motivated even in the off-year elections. democrats, not so much. I wouldn't be the least surprised for the conservatives make gains in 2014 and set themselves up for a stinging defeat again in 2016.

paulejb, Romney wanted to slash taxes 20% across the board. He wanted to increase spending on the military by 200 billion a year. He wanted to eliminate the estate tax. Do you really think that the middle class didn't realize that they would be the ones that got kicked in the teeth under a Romney presidency? The gravy train for the wealthy takers is slowing down.

paulejb, nobody is talking about confiscating every penny held by the wealthy. We're talking about having those making over 200k a year (250k for married couples) paying the same rate they paid prior to the Bush tax cuts. Taxes have to be raised and social programs have to trimmed some and slowed. The right likes to froth at the mouth and pretend like an extra 2% (above the 200/250k) is the end of the world. They're greedy MFers that have the social conscience of a snake. They want all of the benefits and none of the responsibilty. They've looted this country long enough. You folks lost the election. Deal with it.

Obama is spending 24% of the GOP year over year. What can not continue, won't.
We know - ending our conflicts, realigning our war spending, removing tax cuts etc will fix that. Calm down.

The traditional Nativity story that used to take up 14 displays was crammed into two.Controversy erupted, and as a result, the city decided the lottery would become increasingly costly. Last June, the City Council voted to ban all private unattended displays.
In October, Nativity scene proponents filed suit in federal court to allow the traditional Christian displays to continue. In a 27-page tentative ruling, Collins denied the group permission to erect their displays this year while the case is pending.
