On the polls and such.

There were no protests in the run-up to the Benghazi attack.

Jack Welch parts ways with Fortune after spouting baseless conspiracies; the Wall Street Journal hands him a megaphone.

CEO plagiarizes chain letter, tells employees whom to vote for.

Maybe emergency room care isn’t so bad after all.

And Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard excoriates the opposition for sexism. Tilda Swinton will star in the biopic.

Barry, the eye candy president, actually believed that he won the debate.  Barry Obama: expanding the definition of clueless narcissist.

What is the source on this stuff anyways?

"President Obama sneers in contempt at everyone, including Mitt Romney. He is so awesome and such a special snowflake, you see, that he doesn’t need to bother engaging with mere mortals. President Squee may think he won the debate, just by being The One, but Twitter users think, “bless his heart.” Oh, yeah. And they also think he’s living in an alternate reality."

This reads like it was written by an angry teenager, but I guess you have to write for your audience.

As I mentioned the other day, there are so many unanswered questions about Mitt Romney’s taxes.

One issue that is increasingly being asked is whether Mitt Romney

closed his Swiss bank account at UBS to avoid serious prosecution for

avoiding taxes.

UBS reached a settlement with the IRS for nearly $800 million for

their role in helping rich Americans avoid paying US taxes. Following

the settlement, the IRS announced an amnesty period for Americans who

may have been hiding money at UBS, and thousands came forward.

It’s still not clear whether Mitt Romney participated in that amnesty

period, but what we do now know is that he no longer has a Swiss bank

account with UBS as of 2010. The timing is certainly interesting.

Because Romney won’t release full details of his taxes, and instead

only released a pile of documents signed by PWC and lawyers, we can’t

say for sure whether he hid millions in Switzerland or not.

Paul Abrams at the Huffington Post has been following this closely

for a while now and has made a list of the circumstantial evidence that

points towards Romney participating in the amnesty program. Romney is

only answering questions via email about his taxes and of course, he’s

not answering any questions about amnesty.

Huffington Post:

To review, here is the circumstantial evidence:

i) Romney closed ONLY his Swiss UBS Account, not Caymans or Bermuda or

Luxembourg. Hence, he cannot claim “bad optics for a campaign” as the

alternative explanation;

ii) Romney closed the UBS account during the time required to receive amnesty;

iii) Romney omitted from his public disclosure of his 2010 returns the specific information about the UBS account;

iv) Romney took six extra months to prepare his 2011 returns, disclosing

them in the countdown to the election, whereas he could have disclosed

2009 immediately with 2010, getting all that bad news out at once,

during the primary, so that it would be ancient history by now. That is

strong evidence that 2009, that would have shown the amnesty with

flashing lights, was too toxic.

Someone in the traditional media needs to ask Mitt Romney directly

whether he did or did not close his Swiss bank account during the

amnesty program. But they also need to demand that he release the full

details of his taxes like every other candidate for president in modern

times.

mantisdragon91
mantisdragon91

What Romney's Hiding: 'It's the Amnesty, Stupid'

Why does the press feign puzzlement about what Romney is hiding by not revealing his 2009 tax returns?

He has already revealed the extent of his foreign bank accounts, the

approximate amount of his holdings and two years of taxes that are less

than the middle class pays. Even if he had paid zero in some years,

that is already baked into the political cake.

His disclosure of his 2010 account omitted information about his

Swiss bank account at the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS). Why is the

press not asking for this form? UBS was fined $760 million for putting

Americans into abusive tax shelters and forced to reveal more than 4000

Americans who banked with them under numbered accounts.

The 4000+ Americans who were exposed by UBS were offered amnesty

from criminal prosecution for tax evasion if they closed their Swiss

Account, recalculated and paid all back taxes and paid a 25 percent

penalty on the largest amount.

Romney closed his UBS account in the time required. He did not close his other foreign accounts.

With strong circumstantial evidence (see below), should not the

press be peppering Romney with questions about amnesty, and, if he says

no, ask him for any alternative explanation why he closed the UBS

account, why he did it at that time, and whether he would allow the IRS

Commissioner to verify, or not, that Romney is telling the truth?

Is that why the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigating Strategic Allied Consulting for voter fraud.

mantisdragon91
mantisdragon91

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement began

an investigation Wednesday into alleged fraud involving a company hired

by the state's Republican Party to register voters.

The agency said it received a complaint from the Florida Division of

Elections about suspicious forms submitted in several counties and

determined that Strategic Allied Consulting should be investigated. The

agency said it wouldn't comment further until the investigation is

complete.

"We fully support the investigation and we believe that

anyone who files a falsified voter registration form should be

prosecuted to the full extent of the law," said state GOP spokesman

Brian Burgess. "In fact, we asked for this investigation."

The state party fired the company after reports of several dozen

suspicious forms being turned in. The company was paid at least $1.3

million for the work and also was hired by Republicans in other

presidential battleground states. Since the Florida problems, state

Republican Parties in North Carolina, Colorado and Virginia have also

fired the company, which has stood by the quality of its work.

A spokesman for the company said it would cooperate with any investigation.

"It's very possible that here and there, sporadically, a couple of

employees didn't follow the rules," said David Leibowitz. "It's a

massive operation and some people in any massive operation are not going

to follow the rules."

He said of 50,000 registration cards turned in by people hired by the company, only about 150 have been questioned.

The state Democratic Party said the Florida GOP also should be investigated.

"With almost 30 days until Election Day and six days before book

closing, Florida voters, election administrators and law enforcement

officials need to know the facts. The Florida GOP owes the people of

this state a clear explanation. If they refuse to come clean it is

incumbent on the Division of Elections to investigate" the state's

Republican Party, said spokeswoman Brannon Jordan.

The

state GOP said it hired the company at the suggestion of the Republican

National Committee. An elections supervisor in Palm Beach County first

noticed irregularities with more than 100 forms. Since then, problems

have been reported in other counties.

In Florida, it is a third-degree felony to "willfully submit" any

false voter registration information, a crime punishable by up to five

years in prison.

In recent years, Florida's Republican-controlled Legislature – citing

suspicious voter registration forms turned in by the Association of

Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN – has cracked down on

groups holding voter registration drives.

The hypocrisy of the Republican party knows no end:

WASHINGTON -- A pro-life, family-values congressman who worked as a doctor before winning election as a Tea Party-backed Republican had an affair with a patient and later pressured her to get an abortion, according to a phone call transcript obtained by The Huffington Post.

The congressman, Rep. Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee, was trying to save his marriage at the time, according to his remarks on the call, made in September of 2000. And, according to three independent sources familiar with the call and the recording, he made the tape himself.

I do not know why they did not run the story. Lehrer did a remarkably POOR job of controlling the Wild LYING Romney.
