Sanity on Iran

  • Share
  • Read Later

A powerful bipartisan group of experts, led by Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski,  has issued a policy paper that raises grave doubts about the efficacy of a military attack on Iran. The report raises many of the same concerns I did in this space yesterday. It serves to further isolate the neoconservative extremists who, at the behest of Bibi Netanyahu, are trying to plump for yet another unnecessary war in the region. The blinkered persistence of the neocons–who have been proven conclusively to be wrong about the use of American power over the past decade–is astonishing. They have no constituency in America outside a handful of disgraceful single-issue moneybags like Sheldon Adelson and those evangelicals foolish enough to believe that a Greater Israel is a necessary precursor to the Rapture. And yet, Mitt Romney has turned to them for wisdom–which is one of the main reasons why Romney has seemed so imprudent and unwise on foreign policy these past few days.

Ever play poker?  Ever tempted to go "all-in"?  I admire your recent comments on Morning Joe, and your passion.  And even feel a bit enlightened about what TRUE iranians think or feel.  And i actually do not have any reason to doubt your analysis.

That said,  you are suggesting we go "all in" with the belief that even if Iran does become nuclear set, with weapons, that they wont use this technology to try to harm the west, or our friends Israel.  Even tho they have said repeatedly that they would.

are you sure you want to make this bet?  because if your wrong, a strong apology wont suffice.  Actually, it wont even be heard by the millions of burned, scorched, or lifeless bodies.

I have a question for you Joe, what happens when Iran either nukes Israel or gives the bomb to Hamas?

If that happens it wouldn't bother him in the least.

I don't believe I have ever read a sentence as inane as this:  " A powerful bipartisan group of experts, led by Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski,  has issued a policy paper that raises grave doubts about the efficacy of a military attack on Iran."

Read pretty much ANYTHING you post here... it should serve your purpose nicely.

I guess since they hung Julius Streicher at Nuremberg you go with the next best thing. Which to Joe ( man of the people ) Klein would be Brezinski. Polish anti-semite of the first order.

Attacking IRAN will hit US pocket  book very dearly.

 Thanks for that, Joe.

These people remind me of the Radical Muslims they protest  against. One claims Jesus the other Mohammed, and the rest of us are the infidels, undeserving of either.

This stupid claim that Iran wants to destroy Israel is based on a mis-translation of a single sentence by Ahmadinejad in 2005. How long are Israelis going to drag this myth out. The comment was directed at the current regime in Israel, not its people! Further we can't tell another nation, particularly one we have labeled a member of the Axis-of-Evil and invaded their neighbor how to protect their citizens. If Israel has a nuke then Iran should have one.

Now as to an Israeli attack on Iran .... it is an impossibility and they know it. First of all Israel would have to get permission from Iraq and/or Jordan to traverse their airspace. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. As far as Iraq is concerned, American forces will shoot their jets down, we haven't forgotten about the U.S.S. Liberty and we won't allow Israel to start World War III. Second, it would be a One-Way-Trip, a suicide mission due to the fact that Israel would have to re-fuel their bombers etc. while in mid-flight AND DODGE SOVIET BUILT GROUND-TO-AIR MISSILES while doing so.  Third, don't think for one minute that China and the Soviets aren't waiting to take advantage of any incident as it relates to Iran.

"Bibi" is just talking nonsense and President Obama is treating him much better than Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower did. President Eisenhower "slapped Israel around" and made them give up the territory they stole in 1956.

THAT'S HOW YOU HANDLE ISRAEL !!!

That Israel is a cancer that must be eradicated from the middle east. Hard has a Jew not to take that one personally. Like the hamas charter, "Kill the Jew" thing. But I see your good with it.

Or perhaps he loves his "people" enough to question the sanity of the path that Bibi is bound and determined to take.  The days of sticking your head in the sand and blindly accepting your leadership's pronouncements as gospel-truth ended when "W" marched the US into Iraq in search of the non-existent WMD's.

BTW...You have some sand in your hair, dude.

"The blinkered persistence of the neocons–who have been proven conclusively to be wrong about the use of American power over the past decade–is astonishing."

No less astonishing than the blinkered persistence of the Chicago School economists who have been proven conclusively to be wrong about the confidence fairy, government stimulus, deficits, tax rates, and Keynesian economic models in general, for the past thirty years. There simply hasn't been anything rational about following (or compromising with) "conservatism" for a very long time.

If a bomb is going to be dropped on Iran can they make sure that Sheldon Adelson is strapped to it, so he can see the carnage, up front and personal, that he has made?

Just drop Sheldon, it has the similar effect as large space objects hitting planets.

Mrs. Badhair is also a piece a work. Maybe construct a bomb built for two.

"...which is one of the main reasons why Romney has seemed so imprudent and unwise on foreign policy these past few days."

The past few days?  The man screwed up "Hey, nice Olympics" minutes after stepped off the plane in London. He's been "imprudent" on foreign policy every time he's encountered anything related to foreign policy.

Well, I don't think the NeoCons are the ones that drove Romney to fail the "be gracious to your host" test.

No, I'm afraid that's the monied entitlement prep school milieu.

The ones that are really pushing such action are the neo-Cons and the Evangelical bunch trying to trigger the Apocalypse.  Since they believe that the world as we know it is supposed to end this year, why would THEY need worry about any "future" fallout?

Anything that would start a war in the ME would work toward their interpretation of the book of Revelation.

They're trying to force the Almighty's hand... on THEIR timetable.

"They're trying to force the Almighty's hand . . . "  It's so odd to me (not being a Christian) that they think a God would need help in fulfilling his prophesy.

The president of Iran said promotion of homosexuality is a Zionist plot.

While the whole Middle East was exploding, Leon Puñettas was having gay pride celebrations at the Pentagon... Hillary Clinton was on a world tour preaching the homosexual religion...

In Pakistan, they called the promotion of homosexuality by the U.S. Embassy there an act of cultural terrorism.

Sodom Hussein Obama wants to turn the Boy Scouts into a dating club for NAMBLA.

It's  reassuring that experts, diplomats, Netanyahu's Jewish opponents in Israel, reporters, newspapers are speaking up.  It would be tragic to let neo-cons repeat their war-mongering.  If the world has to go in and help Israel, we all need to be on board - that's the best thing for Israel and the Middle East.  It's a shame Romney can't buy a clue.

Clues were outsourced to Burma, who are finally catching on.

Had a look at the report that JK cites.  Essentially it say's that attacking Iran would be like touching the third rail... and the signatories is a long-list of foreign policy heavy-hitters (diplomatic and millitary).  Anyone aspiring to be the president might want to have a look and rethink the potential fallout of such an action.

Perhaps the President could fax a copy to Bibi's office, marked "From your loving friend. America xxxx"
