Obama’s Stadium Speech Rained Out

Citing safety concerns, Democratic organizers announced Wednesday morning that President Obama’s nomination acceptance speech in Charlotte will be moved indoors from Bank of America Stadium to the Time Warner Cable Arena. The venue change,  prompted by forecasts of thunderstorms, leaves some 40,000 Democrats who had planned to attend Obama’s Thursday address at the larger outdoor forum, without tickets to their party’s big night. There’ll be some yet-to-be determined consolation prize for those who are missing out, but the loss of the big stage is a let down for Democrats who fondly remember Obama’s 2008 acceptance speech in front of tens of thousands of people at Denver’s Invesco Field.  The indoor arena, which seats 21,000, isn’t what Democrats had planned for. But there’s no doubt it’ll be filled to capacity, rain or not. And everybody likes a packed house.
