“What we hear is gun control is off the table...We refuse to accept that premise.”

–Representative Diana DeGette of Colorado, one of four Congressional Democrats proposing a ban on high-capacity magazines in the wake of the massacre last week in Aurora.

Americans have a fundamental right to keep and bear arms, it says a lot about someone who has sworn to uphold the Constitution that she refuses to accept that premise.

Care to point out where in her statement she is refusing to accept that premise? And care to  give me a valid reason why anyone needs a 60 round clip? Hell give me a valid reason why someone even needs a 20 round clip.

Assault rifles and hi-cap magazines were illegal until a few years ago, when the ban was allowed to expire.

Are you saying that any interpretation you don't like is eternally open to debate, but anything you DO approve of is now to be set in stone and sacrosanct, off-limits from further discussion?

There were no high-capacity magazines when the Constitution was written.  Nor were there surface to air missiles.

Are you saying that the Constitution guarantees the right to the first, but not the 2nd?

Or should we be able to buy our own surface to air missiles, too?

So what's "a well-regulated militia" to you?  The cops?  National Guard?  The Coast Guard?  I thought we stopped posses a long time ago.

[no, Sacred, no!...]

"...we live in a nation where a small group of extremely wealthy people has found it in their interests to fan bigotry and paranoia in the population."

We've always had those. We used to have many good leaders in the media and elected office to call them and their bu!!sh!t for what they are. That's what's been lost. That's what Rep. DeGette is talking about.

I wish massacres was off the table too, but our political critters think it's better to live through more of them than to work to make them as rare as the rest of the industrialized world.

Fear that the NRA will cut off its campaign contributions and/or give $ to your opponent > doing what is right

Unfortunately, we live in a nation where a small group of extremely wealthy people has found it in their interests to fan bigotry and paranoia in the population.

And that is why we can't have nice things.
