Obama on Israel and Iran

On the eve of the AIPAC convention and Bibi Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, Jeff Goldberg has an excellent interview with the President on the prospects of war with the Iran and other crucial topics. Obama seems steadfastly opposed to Iran getting a nuclear weapon, but he also makes a smart case against a pre-emptive Israeli attack:

“At a time when there is not a lot of sympathy for Iran and its only real ally, [Syria,] is on the ropes, do we want a distraction in which suddenly Iran can portray itself as a victim?”

At a time when various Republican candidates are saying outrageous and untruthful things about Obama and Israel, this is a welcome corrective.
