Opposition Research of the Day

Some enterprising person, who doesn’t want Jon Huntsman going too far in a Republican presidential primary, sends two letters to the Daily Caller:

Dear Mr. President,

I am most grateful for the graciousness and kindness you have shown me and my family…. You are a remarkable leader – and it has been a great honor getting to know you.

Jon

Huntsman’s not even back on American soil yet and the fur is flying. Read the whole thing over at the DC.

Obama’s Persuasive Powers on Gay Marriage Manifest in Maryland

When President Obama endorsed gay marriage earlier this month, the media grappled with two basic political questions: Was his personal “evolution” a case of  a politician transparently following a national trend toward accepting same-sex unions (accelerated, perhaps, by his chatty number two), and would it hurt his re-election chances by alienating socially conservative voters like black churchgoers? Sure, there was a recognition that it marked a gratifying moment for gay marriage advocates—as well as some grumbling about the President’s view that it remains a state issue, not a federal one. But by and large, there were few suggestions that one man, even the President, would shift public opinion on the issue or affect public policy. Based on a new Public Policy Polling survey out of Maryland, it seems this possibility was underestimated.

    Cherokee Zero

Apparently, Massachusetts voters don’t mind that Elizabeth Warren foolishly identified herself as a Native American early in her academic career–it was, apparently, a case of family pride and wishful thinking about a Cherokee ancestor. That’s good. Warren may be the best public figure when it comes to explaining the depredations of the financial industry and [...]

This is why Obama wins a second term. Anyone who has a chance of fighting for the great middle will be painted with the ‘collaborator’ brush.

The only way this gets better for O is if Sarah Palin announces that she is running as a third party candidate.

It’s kind of a shame that one can’t both appreciate someone AND have a different party and certain ideals. Like, you know, happens in real life.

I’ve heard some chatter that Trump, if he decides to push his media stunt further, would pull a Perot.

Or even have good manners and be gracious to other people, regardless of their political position. When, exactly, did intentional rudeness become a civic virtue?

While it might be good for O this election cycles, these kinds of individuals getting National attention by the Press can only Cheapen the process, lower expectations, and reduce the effectiveness of Government.

It is not a good thing at all. I would rather see a hotly debated contest between two opposing but sane, and sincere individuals.

Amen, my first thought was HaHa, and then i realized that it is saddening that this statement is evidence against a candidate. I suppose we can take solace in the fact that American political discourse right now is about on par with historical fluctuations so at least nothing out of the ordinary is happening.

The only people pimping for Hunstman are the Republican-hating, America-hating, political activists/lobbyists of the Washington/New York/American press corps. None of them are Republicans.

Huntsman’s chances of getting the Republican nomination are even lower than America’s chances of electing a president whose claim to fame is being a thoroughly unqualified, militant, socialist, community organizer who pals around with an unrepentant terrorist who bombed the Pentagon, married a woman who discovered in 2008 that “for the first time in [her] adult life, [she] is proud of her country” and who spent 20 years in the pews of an America-hating, race baiting cult.

In the modern gop civil behavior that used to be expected of everyone now disqualifies a person from consideration as a candidate. Only Ann Coulter Charm School graduates need apply.

  • acameronw

This is easy for Mr. Huntsman to get out of. When asked about it (and he will be, he will be) all he has to say is “I was kissing my boss’s ass. Are you going to tell me none of you have ever done it?”

His views on the Central Park jogger case and the young men wrongfully convicted:
    .
At the time of the trial they were vilified by the media, which depicted them as inchoate, predatory animals. It didn’t matter that there was no physical evidence – not a drop of blood or a speck of mud — linking them to the bludgeoned rape victim. Four of the defendants had confessed. That their confessions were wildly inconsistent and inaccurate didn’t sway the court. They were out there in the park doing bad things (as if it were pointless differentiating shoplifting from holding a gun to a cashiers head and shooting). “Lock them up!” the media ranted. “Execute them!” people demanded. Donald Trump took out full-page newspaper ads advocating reinstatement of the death penalty.
    .
You bet, “the blacks” just love him.

    Hmmmm
Leters dated 2009. Why they should be a reason for man not to run against Obama?
Hillary did in 2008. but it was not a reason for her to reject Secretary of State post where she is just perfect.

How very uplifting and sad at the same time.

I would so love to think that a civil, civilized candidate could be nominated by the GOP, and we could finally have a presidential contest with optimistic overtones from both sides.

    What a pipe dream…
