Those of you following Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race will know by now that Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus discovered yesterday during her canvass of ballots from Tuesday’s election a misplaced computer tally that has swung the competition back to justice David Prosser by more than 7,000 votes.

As the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel detailed, this likely takes the difference in votes over the 0.5% level beneath which a recount comes at no charge to the candidate who requests one but within the level where one can be requested for a fee of $5 per ward.

There is a certain segment of the population that believes major Republican election victories have been rigged by electronic voting machine companies who are in bed with the GOP. I wrote a story about one particularly interesting conspiracy theorist a few years ago named Brett Kimberlin, who is also the guy who claimed to have sold marijuana to Dan Quayle.

In the case of Waukesha, the solid Journal Sentinel is already on the case with this thorough analysis of the new numbers and why they make sense.
