False Trumpet

Jerusalem

I’ve just spent an intense two days of reporting on both sides of the green line, on the West Bank and in Israel, and I’ll be writing for the print magazine, and posting here, about all I’ve learned, starting tomorrow. But I just can’t resist the following:

Acting in silent, but unspoken, mainstream-media conspiracy with my columnar brother Dana Milbank, I’ve spent the last few months not writing about a certain former governor from Alaska and also dry-drunk, paranoid TV Host with declining ratings–on the grounds that they are more part of the world of entertainment than of politics or policy (and real things seem to be happening, in droves, in the actual planet Earth these days). To that list I can now, happily, add Donald Trump, who will not run for President but is pretending to do so now because…he…just…can’t…help…himself. Trump has long believed a sucker is born every minute–hence, the pretense that he’s an actual real estate executive (as he once was), a master builder, instead of a franchiser who gets paid to put his name on other people’s buildings in order to give them marketing cache (one wonders what sort of people would be more likely to buy or rent an apartment because it is called The Trump Dump, or whatever).

In any case, this unerring sense of marketing savvy has now led Trump to latch on to birtherism as his first move in his non-presidential campaign. As Ben Smith points out and every sane human being knows: Obama has made his birth certificate public. It has been certified as real by Hawaii’s Governor. That Trump, a New Yorker–and a Queens boy at that–would stoop to this nauseating trash disqualifies him from any serious consideration for anything–even as a cheesy reality tv host (I mean, c’mon NBC, you’re helping to publicize this?)–and his name is hereby expunged from my little piece of the swamp.

Obama’s Persuasive Powers on Gay Marriage Manifest in Maryland

When President Obama endorsed gay marriage earlier this month, the media grappled with two basic political questions: Was his personal “evolution” a case of  a politician transparently following a national trend toward accepting same-sex unions (accelerated, perhaps, by his chatty number two), and would it hurt his re-election chances by alienating socially conservative voters like black churchgoers? Sure, there was a recognition that it marked a gratifying moment for gay marriage advocates—as well as some grumbling about the President’s view that it remains a state issue, not a federal one. But by and large, there were few suggestions that one man, even the President, would shift public opinion on the issue or affect public policy. Based on a new Public Policy Polling survey out of Maryland, it seems this possibility was underestimated.

Your effort not to give publicity to demagogues devoid of talent save for self-promotion is admirable in certain regards… but it is worth noting that the unnamed former half-term small-state governor & erstwhile drive-time shock jock are two of the most popular voices for self-identified Republicans. It’s not like we’re talking about people with Lyndon LaRouche-level support, here.
    -
Avoid naming the publicity hounds if you must, but remember the larger issue: the Republican Party is 100% insane from top to bottom. The thrice-bankrupt, skunk-headed Jose Canseco co-star is, if nothing else, savvy. He surely knows that over half of GOP voters in the 2010 election are birthers, just as they hate facts about climate change and evolution. (Interesting comparison here finds that this is unique to the post-rational version of right-wingery in the US).
    -
These are people who believe, or at least demand to be told, that reducing revenues balances the budget, that we found WMD in Iraq, that the health insurance proposal authored by the Heritage Foundation & supported by Bob Dole and Bill Frist is some form of fascist Kenyan socialism, etc.
    -
The state of the GOP– and, therefore, of the MSM, which lives to claim that “both sides are too extreme”– is depressing even to Newt Gingrich (link here).

The insanity of one of the two major parties is the story, not the personalities seeking to get money and attention by adding to the crazy.

White House’s Birther Strategy Working To Perfection
    .

According to Fox News contributor Karl Rove, the White House “strategy” is to get conservatives and Republicans to keep talking up the debunked conspiracy theory that Obama was not born in America in an effort to make his opponents look a little nutty. Even Rove concedes the birther nonsense turns off independent voters, which is why he’s so sure the White House is somehow promoting the birther brigade: It’s a distraction from the real issues at hand.

The liberal group Media Matters has quietly transformed itself in preparation for what its founder, David Brock, described in an interview as an all-out campaign of “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” aimed at the Fox News Channel.

The group, launched as a more traditional media critic, has all but abandoned its monitoring of newspapers and other television networks and is narrowing its focus to Fox and a handful of conservative websites, which its leaders view as political organizations and the “nerve center” of the conservative movement. The shift reflects the centrality of the cable channel to the contemporary conservative movement, as well as the loathing it inspires among liberals — not least among the donors who fund Media Matters’ staff of about 90, who are arrayed in neat rows in a giant war room above Massachusetts Avenue.

WADE RATHKE’S STARTLING ADMISSION: ‘ECONOMIC TERRORISM’ ENGINEER STEPHEN LERNER IS STILL ON SEIU PAYROLL
    .
ACORN founder Wade Rathke has been busy mocking the story that broke on The Blaze earlier this week about a multi-front plot to target JP Morgan Chase in an attempt to crash the stock market. We’ll look at his criticisms in a second. No need to bury the lede here. Rathke seems to answer the question we’ve been asking all week — does bank plotter Stephen Lerner still work for SEIU? Rathke says Lerner is still very much on the SEIU payroll:
    .
Lerner has not been “fired” by SEIU as they report. He was placed on paid leave last fall to think through his contribution to the union, but was certainly present at the recent international executive board meeting.
This is important for several reasons — not the least of which is that this ties the plot to destroy the American economy much more closely within the ranks of the organization that time and time again President Obama has declared to be most important to him strategically and politically.
    .
How much longer will they take to bring the type of violent protests we are seeing in Great Britain to a city near you?

Here’s the facts the JEWS were given the land by the BRITISH .. where they build is up to them.. IT’S THEIR LAND..they have the RIGHT to protect themselves be it with check points or who comes and goes in their country.. and IF I remember correctly.. they do have BIG BOMBS.. IF they truly wanted to do damage they would have.. the HONEST fact they are showing STRONG RESERVE in the light of the FAMILY that got brutality killed KIDS and parents WHICH I am sure YOU WILL report on .. and the PALESTINIANS WHO were handing out candy and bragging about it RIGHT?? You also KNOW the Palestinians hate American’s don’t you??? .. they are ENOUGH SAID.. and I pity those who go against Israel..
as for who will run and the underhanded POT shot at what I take it is GLEN BECK.. you have to understand something.. those that watch him are fluent in CRITICAL and LOGICAL thinking UNLIKE those that don’t.. HOWEVER.. when you watch MSM you GET NOTHING.. NO facts.. NO truth.. and biased reporting because they are bought and paid for..
I was a CNN watcher.. and channel 5 was my favorite local station.. THAN I grew up.. I noticed what they were saying was either:
    a. incomplete
    b. not based on actual facts as they pertained to the REAL world
    c. biased..
COMMENT I made years ago when watching MSM .. I could NOT work at a job where they make you contradict your statements each day as you jump the line with propaganda.. the brainless commentators are a SHALLOW as they are UNEDUCATED.. though the years they have proved it OVER and OVER again..
Than CNN ran people like LOU DOBBS and GLEN BECK.. THEY seemed to have a FAR better handle on REALITY than MSM (which I would include the TIMES and a most other rags in this evaluation).. they spoke facts withheld..and let the PEOPLE decide.. GUESS what BOTH GLEN and LOU are now on FOX.. hummm..
so like the UNION members who fall in lock step for fear of losing their jobs .. IF you don’t agree with MSM or want facts MSM is watched by the ignorant and those who can’t be BOTHERED by the facts.. there are only about 30% of the populace that is that gullible now the rest.. well they WOKE UP

Cleon was a right-wing crank whom even conservatives despised. Then Beck discovered him
What has Beck been pushing on his legions? “Leap,” first published in 1981, is a heavily illustrated and factually challenged attempt to explain American history through an unspoken lens of Mormon theology.
    .
As such, it is an early entry in the ongoing attempt by the religious right to rewrite history. Fundamentalists want to define the United States as a Christian nation rather than a secular republic, and recast the Founding Fathers as devout Christians guided by the Bible rather than deists.
    .
By 1963, Skousen’s extremism was costing him. No conservative organization with any mainstream credibility wanted anything to do with him. Members of the ultraconservative American Security Council kicked him out because they felt he had “gone off the deep end.” One ASC member who shared this opinion was William C. Mott, the judge advocate general of the U.S. Navy. Mott found Skousen“money mad … totally unqualified and interested solely in furthering his own personal ends.”
    .
In 1981, Skousen published “The 5,000 Year Leap,” the book for which, thanks to Beck, he is now best known. But it wasn’t that Skousen book that made the biggest headline in the 1980s. Toward the end of Reagan’s second term, Skousen became the center of a minor controversy when state legislators in California approved the official use of another of his books, the 1982 history text “The Making of America.” Besides bursting with factual errors, Skousen’s book characterized African-American children as “pickaninnies” and described American slave owners as the “worst victims” of the slavery system. Quoting the historian Fred Albert Shannon, “The Making of America” explained that “[slave] gangs in transit were usually a cheerful lot, though the presence of a number of the more vicious type sometimes made it necessary for them all to go in chains.”

    .
Donald Trump’s Birth Certificate Isn’t Actually Legit
    .

Trump released a copy of what he claimed was his “official” birth certificate, but it wasn’t actually official. The paper lists Trump’s date and time of birth, but does not contain the Department of Health’s seal or city registrar’s signature required to make it an official document. And that’s not Trump’s only problem: As Politico’s Ben Smith kindly pointed out:

Trump’s mother, it should be noted, was born in Scotland, which is not part of the United States. His plane is registered in the Bahamas, also a foreign country. This fact pattern — along with the wave of new questions surrounding what he claims is a birth certificate — raises serious questions about his eligibility to serve as President of the United States.

Potential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was interviewed afterward on CNN by Piers Morgan. Trump alleged that the rebels in Libya might be connected to Iran, and that there was a danger that the US intervention might end up turning the country over to Tehran.
    .
Dear American politicians: Please note that while the Libyan liberation movement beseeched the West to intervene, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei roundly condemned the US action in Libya, accusing Washington of seeking a toehold in that country. In other words, bringing up some sort of alleged link of the Benghazi provisional government, which has reached out to Washington, and Iran is about the stupidest thing anyone could say about the situation.
