Huckabee’s a Birther??

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee told a conservative radio host on Monday that he questions the validity of President Obama’s birth certificate and claimed Obama was actually raised in Kenya. Huckabee:

“If you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.”

The President grew up in Hawaii, where he was born, and Indonesia, where he spent four years after his mother married an Indonesian man she met at school. Obama’s estranged father was from Kenya.

The potential 2012 GOP candidate for President had previously rejected questions about Obama’s birth certificate, according to The New York Times.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Hey, it’s approaching campaign time… the Pander-lympics are about to begin for real…

  • troubador222

I saw this earlier. It just becomes unbelievable.

  • libssd

Until this, I thought Huckabee was among the saner of the top Republican contenders….

  • afguy

Maybe Huck can lend me his version of the Bible where it says “Thou shalt be able to lie thy a$$ off if it’s for what thou believest is to thine own benefit.”
    .
I’m STILL trying to find it in mine…

  • ohiolibb

Not a chance, mate. Not a chance. McCain is one of the saner Rs now. Saner being a highly relative term here.

  • GivenUp

I’m starting to think that the only way one can be a sane republican would be if one stands there with one’s head in the sand refusing to acknowledge what is going on.
    .
And that is playing fast and loose with the definition of sanity.

Didn’t Obama spend all of an hour with his birth father?

Please correct me if that’s wrong.

    Anyway…

    The GOP Pander-lympics are on!

…Pawlenty is here to fight the real power:
“I’m here today to say, ‘Thank you.’ Thank you for standing up to the ruling class,” Pawlenty told the crowd. “Thank you for standing up to the liberal power brokers, guardians of the status quo and the royal triangle of greed: big government, big unions and big bailed-out businesses.”

I’m so glad he finally identified who, exactly, make up “the ruling class.” It is Wisconsin public employees and GM.

    If it’s any consolation:

Pawlenty came in second in this weird event’s straw poll. He lost to stunt candidate and former crummy pizza magnate Herman Cain.

  • http://elvisberg.wordpress.com Elvis Elvisberg

Huckabee is, of course, a disgusting amoralist.
    -
Let us count the ways. Here’s the history he’s lying about here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6042524.stm

The numbers killed in the uprising is a subject of much controversy. Officially the number of Mau Mau and other rebels killed was 11,000, with 2,000 Africans fighting under British control also losing their lives.

Included in the Mau Mau death toll were the 1,000 suspects hanged by the British administration. Just 32 white settlers were killed in the eight years of emergency.

Professor David Anderson, director of the African Studies Centre at Oxford University, says he estimates the death toll in the conflict may have been about 25,000. The vast majority would have been Mau Mau suspects or civilians linked to them.

He said: “Everything that could happen did happen. Allegations about beatings and violence were widespread. Basically you could get away with murder. It was systematic.”

Martyn Day, the British human rights solicitor acting on behalf of the 12 Mau Mau veterans and civilians, says his clients had suffered terribly in the camps or at the hands of British-led soldiers.

He said: “They were put in camps where they were subject to severe torture, malnutrition, beatings. The women were sexually assaulted. Two of the 12 were castrated. The most severe gruesome torture you could imagine.

“A lot of the officers involved were white, they were controlling the violence against these Mau Mau. It wasn’t just isolated individual officers. It was systematic. The whole purpose was to break the Mau Mau.”

    -
So, yes, Huckabee is willing to tell the lie-craving GOP base the lie they want to hear, that the president is a foreigner.
    -
But let’s also look at Huckabee’s view of the world here. The lesson he draws from the experience of Kenya’s decolonialization isn’t, “the British behaved appallingly toward people seeking independence.” It’s, “them darkies like Obama sure are ungrateful!”
    -
Huckabee is a truly revolting, immoral human being.

When I read this on another blog yesterday:
    .
    http://mediamatters.org/blog/201103010018
    .
I was considering adding it to my file on crazy reactionary right wingers. I don’t know why anyone is surprised. He works for Fox News, is a Christianist, and Dick Morris, who had previously worked for Bill Clinton, advised Huckabee on his races in 1993, 1994 and 1998. AND Chuck Norris is a big supporter.
    .
It is amazing. The man, I guess never read President Obama’s autobiography or discounts it all as fantasy.
    .
Hate to do this, but this is real.
    .
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/suzy-shuster/huckabees-son-and-his-his_b_77359.html
    .

And now here comes Mike Huckabee and his son, David, with their own history of animal cruelty, which came to light because this past April, Huckabee the Younger was caught packing at Little Rock National Airport. Security noticed a Glock and a clip in the carry-on bag of David Huckabee (he said he forgot it was in there — who wouldn’t?) and his subsequent arrest brought a sordid tale of cruelty to animals out of the shadows and into the national spotlight.
    .
It seems young Huckabee spent some time as a counselor at a Boy Scouts camp called Camp Pioneer back in 1998 when he was 17-years-old. Huck happened upon a stray dog that had the misfortune to cross his path. In a move sure to send chills down the spine of parents everywhere, trusting their kids are being cared for by well intentioned summer camp counselors, David Huckabee hung the dog from a tree. His excuse, according to an interview Newsweek conducted with his father Mike: “There was a dog that apparently had mange and was absolutely, I guess, emaciated.”

    .
Other reports state he hung, stoned and slit the dog’s throat. Huckabee Sr. had charges squashed.

  • kbanginmotown

They keep trying to make a Swift-Boat out of a Birth Certificate, tho’….

  • square1

Mike Huckabee is not a birther. Mike Huckabee is a shameless, pandering clown.

If the GOP base expected their candidates to dress like clowns and not just act like them, Huckabee would be getting fitted, as we speak, with a big red nose, a pair of size 27 shoes, and a multi-hued afro wig.

  • nflfoghorn

He waltzed on the cross for your sins.

  • http://erieangel.wordpress.com erieangel

Mange is no excuse for such treatment of an animal. I once took care of dog with mange–it is treatable, though very expensive to do so.

  • http://erieangel.wordpress.com erieangel

Huck had me fooled. He’s been around lately and I’ve actually been thinking he might have some of the answers to what ails this country. I guess not. No pandering fool has answers.

  • artraveler

Huck wants to run for president but knows that if he announces, his cash cow job at FAUX ends so he must do or say something every day to keep his name and face in the news. This is part of the “I’m visible and important” but too cash grabbing to actually announce for president.

I’m not sure you want any of the unannounced candidates for president but you sure don’t want this false preacher. Ask him about the computer hard drives he had shredded as he left office in oppoosition to state law about official documents which included such insignificant documents as his use of the state police airplane that got so many hours on it that it was due for an engine overhaul when he left office and had to be replaced

With his taste for the finer things of life, does he realize that he pays for his meals at the White House unless it is an official state function..There aren’t unaccounted funds for his laundry or pizza or dog food.

  • http://milascurtains.wordpress.com milascurtains

I guess it is time to pay attention on Serious Things and Serious people. Huck does not look like one of them and there is no sense to discuss his crap.

  • Ivy_B

Elvis thank you for posting that. It was a horrible episode in history and I’ll bet Huckabee is totally clueless about what really happened. Mau Mau just sounds so African, you know.

Goober is just another whore pandering to the mouth breathers on the Right. I’d love to see him get the nomination. It will be a blowout on the scale of 1936 and 1964. In fact, any GOP candidate to be is going to be a sacrificial lamb. As this eventuality dawns on the Right by summer 2012 the Joe the Plumber types are going to be out in the streets with their Halloween Tea Party costumes again going crazy and gnashing their teeth. I can’t wait.

  • np042

I can’t tell if this is serious or sarcastic…unfortunately Poe’s Law leads me to assume the worst.

  • freeinpa

Par for the course here having the left parse words over nonsense. Got to keep a club over every conservative birther, Tea Party of course the fact that Huckabee is not in office makes no matter. All is that is far moe important than say an Attorney General who continues to make race an issue and is out and out incompetent.

“”This Department of Justice does not enforce the law on the basis of race,” Holder insisted.”

But apparently he does favor “my people”

Holder’s frustration over the criticism became evident during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing as Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) accused the Justice Department of failing to cooperate with a Civil Rights Commission investigation into the handling of the 2008 incident in which Black Panthers in intimidating outfits and wielding a club stood outside a polling place in Philadelphia.

The Attorney General seemed to take personal offense at a comment Culberson read in which former Democratic activist Bartle Bull called the incident the most serious act of voter intimidation he had witnessed in his career.”Think about that,” Holder said. “When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, to compare what people subjected to that with what happened in Philadelphia, which was inappropriate….to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line for my people,” said Holder, who is black.

    Actually, Huck wasn’t pandering.
    .
And, of course, JNS is lying. Yes, I know it’s EXTREMELY SHOCKING that JNS would lie, but there you have it.
    .
Huck has made a clear that he isn’t one of those dreaded “Birthers”, and even “AntiBirther” hacks like DaveWeigel & BenSmith agree that Huck just made a mistake by naming the wrong country.
    .
P.S. I’ve been using this issue as the starting point for a a smarts/integrity test for anti-Birthers which you can find by clicking here .
    .
Over five months and thousands of views later, only one (1) O fan has passed the test.
    .
Just one “AntiBirther” got a single-question, tricky-but-fairly-easy smarts/integrity test right after thousands of them have seen it. That’s not good.

thanks for the history elvis, but…

the likely explanation here: huckabee, like his peers, gets most of his ideas on history, current events, etc. from the right-wing echochamber or whatever you want to call it, and even then, probably puts very little time into learning. he’s heard the kenyan thing floated a few times and assumes it’s true. all he knows about the mau mau revolution is the general [wrong] impression he’s been given by non-historians. thanks to hundreds of thousands of adoring fans, and the solidarity of his information sphere he has extreme overconfidence in his ideas and his overall rightness. then when he fields that question, all of this is made plain.

this very typical and human explanation of ignorance/overconfidence is, naturally, eschewed in favor of “disgusting amoralist” by ppl like elvis, shepherd, and everyone at kos. see it all the time. righteous anger FEELS SO GOOD
