Re: Re: So Much For Thou Shalt Not Kill

South Dakota shelves bill redefining “justifiable homicide” to (possibly, in the future) allow killing of doctors who perform abortions. Probably a good idea, since whether or not the bill actually would permit such acts hardly matters if anti-abortion activists think that it does. From the NYT:

Dave Leach, an Iowa anti-abortion activist, praised the bill, saying it could end abortions in South Dakota by scaring away doctors or by establishing grounds for someone to kill those who stay. “There may be something I’m overlooking, but from all appearances, this bill would certainly justify an individual taking the life of an abortionist in order to save human lives,” he said.

Between this and the whole redefining rape kerfuffle, it’s turning out to be a bad p.r. month for culture warriors.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Audacity of Dope: Tales of a Toking Teenage Obama

We knew Barack Obama smoked weed in high school because he wrote about it in his books. What we didn’t know, until Buzzfeed posted these choice nuggets (I’m so sorry) from David Maraniss’s new book on the President’s younger years, were the giggle-worthy details of his “Choom Gang” lifestyle, which are right out of a buddy stoner flick. Obama and his friends drove around the lush Hawaii countryside, hot-boxing their VW bus and re-upping with a long-haired pizza-tossing dealer named Ray, whom Obama thanked in his yearbook “for all the good times.”

It seems ever since they won the House, the GOP has done it’s best to do itself in.
    .
When one thinks about this bill in light of the Giffortds attack, I think people are realizing that hate maybe should not be a part of public discourse, and, an actual bill that in a shadowy way might legalize the more sinister activities under cover of religion might be going just a bit too far.

Thanks Amy, but do the culture warriors care about PR? Or only about the ends and to hell with the means to get there? Alas, these aren’t rhetorical q’s; the consequences of misplaced devotions are scary (Rachel Maddow has asked tough q’s here.). If one’s pro-life how can one ever justify taking another life, any other? Let God deal with that.

This should put to rest any pretense that this is a “christian” nation and that the Republicans actually represent anything but the base part of the American experience. Substitute “black” and you could be anywhere down here in the South in the 1900′s and get your own white hood!

It sounds like they want a federal civil rights experience in their state and federal grand juries don’t play games and federal judges don’t give passes.

This is about a bunch of lunatics who are considering making homicide of your political opponents legal and yet you are claiming that “the left” is being uncivil?
    .
What would you say if New York State, California, Massachusetts, Wisconsin or Washington State, for example made the killing of anybody worked on death row in any state into justifiable homicide?
    .
    You’d be going psycho.
    .
I, personally, am opposed to both the death penalty and abortion, but, do not believe that the solution to killing is more killing.
    .
I see no difference in the moral quality between an abortion doctor and the ones who pull the switch on death row.
    .
Better yet, imagine if the murder of all people involved in executions including governors who allowed it is considered justifiable homicide in blue states.
    .
You can be pro-life and still find this bill morally reprehensible .
    .
Yet to take the trashing of a morally reprehensible bill and making your claims about the left is pathetic.
    .
But your debates are almost always pathetic.

Here is the “civility” offered by the left in recent weeks.

A rally called “Uncloaking the Kochs”, sponsored by several progressive liberal groups such as Code Pink, Common Cause, AFFCE, The Ruckus Society, 350, Greenpeace, Progressive Democrats of America and others was staged outside the Kock Brothers Conservative conference attended by Republican Conservatives and successful business people at a resort in Palm Springs, California.

While the mainstream news media covered a portion of the rally protest, reported on some arrests for trespassing, and some bloggers taunted those on the right of the political spectrum, none of them presented what really happened at the rally.

As reported and filmed by Christian Hartsock, demonstrators at a liberal “progressive” rally in Palm Springs, California called for US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be hanged, strung up, tortured, sent back to the fields, among other comments about Tea Party members and Conservatives.

So let me see if I’ve got this straight. A plant goes to a large left-wing rally in Palm Springs and manages to find one person engaged in violent rhetoric and this is supposed to be morally equivalent to a State Legislature legalizing murder?

:So let me see if I’ve got this straight. A plant goes to a large left-wing rally in Palm Springs and manages to find one person engaged in violent rhetoric and this is supposed to be morally equivalent to a State Legislature legalizing murder?”
    .
No surprise you didn’t get it straight—again! No one was talking moral equivalence to anything . I was addressing the nonsense the left here and elsewhere peddles about “civility”. Beyond you missing the premise, it was a Tea Party event (unless now you consider them left-wing) and had left loons protesting out front calling for the torture and lynching of Clarence Thomas. All ignored by the MSM. It points to the fact that “civility” like most values to the left is a punch line, they are open racists and just out and out hypocrits.

    .
As far as legalizing murder, it is at best a stretch to interpret that law as such just as the AZ illegal immigrant law was profiling. But truth is a foreign concept to the left when you have special interest groups (voters) to bribe

    A Tea party rally?

The subject of the thread is rewriting a law to expand justifiable homocide to include killing abortion providers. Measured in terms of how much harm can result, your attempts to invoke chanting in Palm Spriings is a particularly inane distraction.

If an infant survives an abortion, but the abortionist and/or the mother of that infant still intends on executing that infant, does anyone object to someone killing the abortionist and/or the mother of that infant in order to protect the infant from being summarily executed? If so, why?

Also, given the fact that Obama religiously supports killing infants who survive abortions, what would Obama have to say if someone attempting to protect such an infant had to kill the abortionist and/or the mother of of such infants in order to save the life of such an infant?

FYI, no it doesn’t. It roughl records the history of one small region of the world, the ~3 years of teaching and death of one man, the teachings and actions of his followers following his death, and the travels and letters of another man. That hardly accounts for “mankind.”

David Leach says “this bill will end abortions in South Dakota” — there are some missing words here. This bill might end MEDICALLY SAFE abortions, but not abortions. Women were getting abortions long before they were legal, and will continue to get them if they are again made illegal. The difference is, they will be going back to back-alley/coat hanger illegal and dangerous abortions — and more young women will die.
